Re: Australian quarantine equality?

A hypothetical.

A friend lives in Hobart, and his boat is in southern Queensland.

He flies direct to Brisbane, hops on his boat and sails more than three miles offshore, the states territorial limit, so he is no longer in Queensland.

He then sails south, maybe stopping once or twice in NSW or alternatively direct to Hobart.

In Hobart he home quarantines for fourteen days, and is free.

Anyone see any issues with this plan?

For a start I think the old 3 mile territorial limit is now 12 miles.

I'm intimately familiar with the Victorian security industry.. trust me, the incompetence & corruption runs from lower management all the way to the owners of the companies. And as the last year or so has shown, LNP supporters don't have a leg to stand on when pointing fingers at the Victorian govt. It's like a hippo accusing a mouse of being fat.

I wouldn't bother stopping in NSW... not as if its a long voyage.... could cause problems... and defeats the logic of 3/12/200 miles offshore thing.
Apart from that looks good to me... although I don't know what current Tas regs are re arrivals from interstate.

As far as I can find out, home quarantine is OK if you are a returning resident to Tasmania.

I agree with not stopping in NSW, just want to keep the option of waiting in Eden for a window to cross Bass Strait.

Doesn't matter what political flavor they were I'd still hold them in contempt for their incompetence and perversions of process. By any measure they're the worst performing state government in the country at the moment and that's from both public health and civil rights viewpoints. The highest death toll concurrent with the most severe oppression of the populace is not a good combination to have on your record.

Just don't do a 'Lady Pamela'... if you... ooops ... your friend...stays aboard... anchors off and has conversations with local port control logged and recorded I see no problem....

Worst they can do is throw your friend in jail and seize his boat... they can't hang your friend ... have to go to Victoria for that...ask Raymond how bad it is there.....

Re: Australian quarantine equality?

I was thinking it might be a good idea for my friend to lose the AIS, and just anchor in the back of a Twofold Bay till the time is right to leave.

No need to get off the boat or announce an arrival...

Just need good access to wifi, maybe turn the mobiles off and use a dedicated wifi dongle..

I think that is a bad idea.... your friend may regret doing that...

Port Authorities may think you your friend has just arrived from Victoria or - shock horror- Fiji and that will be that... the Eden lockup has nothing to recommend it....

Begs the question why you your friend feels the need to circumvent.

Well there's hope yet then. But are they still extending the Emergency powers until Next April at the minimum?

You should be OK, Eden is in NSW and they are fairly relaxed, It's Qld which is closing the Qld/NSW border and you are leaving Qld so should not be a problem. If your friend has to go into Victoria tell him to be sure he has no dog walking grandmas or pregnant mothers in pyjamas aboard.

So Do Queensland not meet you at the Airport and escort you to a Motel?
