However if the government of the day starts complaining of media bias, then that is a fair indication the journo is doing their job. Power corrupts (always has done) and if a bloodhound sniffs out a story about the failings of any government and the pollies complain of bias, there is an odds on chance there is some truth in the story.

Probably its a management thing - Just employ people that are not bloodhounds and hence no dirt on those who pull the strings will be dug up.

On the flip side maybe some are a little bit scared of reporting certain things - Didn't go well (who is currently on trial i believe) for Good old Aussie Julian Assange - It was nice to see the Australian Government stand up for one of our own, oh wait they didn't they rolled over like an old dog.

I'd have guessed either Fairfax Media-Nine Entertainment, or Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp Australia - but, please enlighten us.

Nope, governments, in the state if Queensland alone there were more than 400 of them a few years ago. They are generally called media advisers.

During the reign of the notorious Joh Blelke Peterson, which ended in the eighties, the Queensland government had only one so the massive expansion in numbers has occurred during the last 40 years.

Julian has the same problem as the Post Card Bandit, even though neither has ever killed anyone they made fools of the bureaucrat collective and therefor must be locked away for life.

Just dropped anchor at Bowen after four day run from Cairns and looking forward to a paper and coffee in the morning, civilization has it's uses.
Paper to wrap up the kitchen scraps or did you step in something?
News corpse rag is good for nought else.

Reckon you got your terms mixed up.

Media advisers are spin doctors, not journalists.

Big deal. 400 is a tiny drop in the ocean of journos and media people.

The Aus govt stats in 2015 showed 27,500 people employed as journos or writers. The number was expected to be over 30,000 by 2020.

Re: Australian quarantine equality?

I trend to judge my reading matter on the content not the proprietor, if the devil himself owned a good quality newspaper I would buy it and read it.

Once upon a time news organizations trained their own journalists in house and when the individuals output had become worth putting into the public place the editors or producers allowed it. It has now become "professionalized" and they do a course in a tertiary education institution and become journalists.

Credlin may not have tertiary qualifications as a journalist but her ability to seek out and discern "news" rather than just consume "media adviser" hand outs obliges one to accord her the title of journalist.

Silly me, here was I believing that quality journalism involved a balanced reporting of all things, especially those contentious issues, not the ravings of a right wing former political puppeteer.

Well, it used to do balanced reporting.. but then the LNP stacked the board with right-wing members. And all of a sudden, it stopped holding the govts feet to the fire.
