Ok, its getting better. Just ran into the head cop at the marina. Friends that come in yesterday got their excemption this morning, his exact words were " it's a result of all your noise"...this makes me feel good.

This thread is getting better all the time. You have done cruisers proud.

It is a different way of leaving a clean wake but nevertheless a good way!

I am particularly impressed with the empathy both ways with the local authorities, well done!

Re: Australian quarantine equality?

Thanks for pushing for a reasonable result. We are heading that way soonest and hope for a quick process in our case. Interesting that the official view is that overseas in the last 14 days implies that one is in a country exposed to other people , whereas for us, overseas is actually “at sea” About as isolated from other humans as it is possible to be.

Yes, Takamoana, that IS a problem. You gotta look at it from the public health point of view: they want to rule out any possibility of contact with an infected person, no matter how far fetched. The two points of view are worlds apart. And that is why the helpful officials that Dale dealt with are so very important.

Good stuff!

And that’s why being silent for government overreach is never the right answer, when they want you to be more quiet, that’s when you know they are afraid.

Guess the next step is to not have cops at marinas lol

Re: Australian quarantine equality?

The question that begs answering is, was the change in decision because of the recognition of bad policy in this case or because they got caught with different implementation, i.e. 2 boats and crews imprisoned vs one partial quarantine on board? Happy for those who made enough noise to get action in this case, but was it just a way to silence the noise or will there be a logical evaluation of policy. I suspect I already know the answer, absolute power almost never diminishes itself when left to there own devices. Have enjoyed watching though.

There seems to be a logical disconnect, there.
They "made enough noise to get action", hence "absolute power" has NOT been "left to there their own devices".
In any case, well done, Dale.

Big difference between a ‘one off’ result leaving your fate to the discretion of those who will decide for you (the absolute power folks) and a policy needing no such interpretation (government self limiting its own power). It was very clear in my head. Cheers

Equality and fairness do not come from a country, they come from the elected officials and the power hungry bureaucrats the officials allow to control things.

Think about this the next time an election comes up. Think about this the next time you are asked to help a political canidate.

Congratulations. It sounds like you and the others made a good case for a reasonable objection, and the authorities were reasonable enough to listen and consider, and then to act. It's encouraging that there's at least one continent where people and their government are able to discuss and resolve a problem.

Sometimes it takes a bit of pushback to improve hastily-enacted restrictions. Good on you, then, for doing the pushing.

Dale,
I sympathize with your sentiments. At least you got in - we've elected to ship our boat out of OZ rather than deal with officialdom there. Not a decision made lightly, as it will cost me a year of salary. We'll be living on rice & beans for the foreseeable future. I suspect the difference between your application and the other boat was the nationality of your respective crew?
