Re: Canadian COVID-19 News

"Canadian officials have charged two American travelers and fined them 20,000 Canadian dollars each - around $25,000 USD - for providing fake COVID-19 vaccination documents. "

MSN got their conversion all wrong, closer to $15,800 US - it has been a long time since the $Cdn was worth more than a $US. Doesn't change their deviousness of course.
Interesting to see if the US refusal to open their border to Canadian land/sea travelers will impact the proposed opening of the Canadian border. And whether increasing case numbers in Canada will impact that decision as well.

Re: Canadian COVID-19 News

I wish $20k CND=$25k USD . I bought my current boat when the dollars were close to par. Ours briefly went above the USD back then.

I wonder what tipped off the CBSA that these folks were using forgeries.

It's a real shame. It sounds like the Canadians were too polite to include the 6 months jail time that the law also provides.

Well they didn’t want to pay for someone else’s jail time
I wonder if they were permanently barred from ever entering again?

Re: Canadian COVID-19 News

That's a cool way of phrasing it: makes it sound like a reward for responsible behavior! Too bad so many people seem to look upon it as *unfair* punishment.

Probably depends on which side of the line we choose to be on .

Re: Canadian COVID-19 News

The gov't is affirming that the border will be reopened to US citizens on Monday. This CBC article this morning gives more details;
https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/can...ated-1.6132947
While I have no plans to go south, it would seem to me that the US should reciprocate. BC case numbers are escalating again, primarily among young and unvaccinated people, and especially in the southern interior. Restrictions have again been imposed there to combat the outbreaks. This is accompanying the serious wildfire situation that has destroyed several small communities and now has the city of Vernon (40,000 people) on evacuation alert.

Re: Canadian COVID-19 News

Logistically, I find it hard to figure out how the announced Canadian govt plan could be implemented for cross border recreational vessels. Sidney and Victoria CBSA docks at marinas do not have places, physically, for the checks required for incoming Americans in the latest Canadian govt announcement.

The timing and unilateral nature of this decision only makes sense in light of a potential snap federal election call. Trudeau is no doubt wanting to use this a nice feather in his cap as he makes a grab for a majority.

Re: Canadian COVID-19 News

Marine traffic is show a couple US recreational boats headed across border. I am going to Desolation Sound next weekend so I will be monitoring traffic carefully.

Re: Canadian COVID-19 News

Things open today, but a COVID-19 test is now required in addition to the proof vaccine.

I’m scrambling to get tested.
