Completely agree. The US border closure is clearly an important issue for Canadian boaters, and Point Roberts has a special place in the Canadian news landscape. Your post is definitely relevant Red.

Back on post #2534 someone asked how Point Roberts Marina was doing. We were there in late June to help a friend fix his fishing boat before going to Alaska. I'd say the occupancy is about 50% and some of the finger piers at the visitor's dock are listing quite a bit. We had power and water at our slip with no problems.

I had quite a conversation with Ding, the manager of the gas dock who told me the marina had been sold to Canadians just prior to covid (they had hired him to do the accounting) and then they were unable to cross the border so they basically told him to just keep things running until they returned. He was working 10 hour days 6 days a week for 19 months and he was tired. A good man. I know he's looking forward to some normalcy.

I know this is not my thread, but I am your neighbor and have tons of friends up in BC. I get some of my best info from this thread.

Newfoundland and Labrador added 14 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, all in the Central Health region, where cases continue to climb.

There is such a disconnect in my brain when I read stuff like this and the resulting gov't action and then flip over to our (Alberta's) numbers and see:

Alberta reported 1,246 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, out of 11,144 tests.

...knowing its not gonna make a difference to our response. I mean I am not exactly in favour of another soul-crushing lockdown but the disparity between us and the east coast's attitudes is really mind boggling.

You weren't/aren't in Canada and your posts are not relevant to the Canadian situation - so the only thing that could possibly qualify you to post on this thread is that you are Canadian. If you are not (and somehow I doubt it) and you aren't posting information specifically relevant to Canada and Canadians then this thread is not for you. Go find another one. There are plenty. Thank you.

Because of its unique physical situation, of which I expect you are unaware, despite it being in the United States, anything about Point Roberts is relevant and of interest to Canadians.

What are you "mandate vaccination" cheerleaders going to "mandate" when a vaccination immune strain comes out? The anti-vaxers didn't try to prevent you from getting vaccinated so don't try and force them to get vaccinated.

The thing that puzzles me about the folks who don't take the vax, purely to demonstrate their freedom of choice, forget that taking the vax is also a demonstration of freedom of choice. No one forced most of us to take it. We chose to.

If everyone gets vaccinated we would knock this virus out and there would be no opportunity for a vaccine-resistant variant to develop. However, with the great number of people who haven't been vaccinated, many of whom, presumably including you, REFUSING to be vaccinated, the ground remains fertile for new variants, including vaccine-resistant ones, to develop.
