New Canadian data suggests the bold strategy to delay and mix second doses of COVID-19 vaccines led to strong protection from infection, hospitalization and death — even against the highly contagious delta variant — that could provide lessons for the world.
Too soon to gloat, and seldom in good taste, but yes I agree that after some initial missteps when the pandemic hit (like most countries), it seems that Canada's overall response to the pandemic, including vaccination, has been among the more successful ones. With many mitigating factors of course: we're wealthy and have resources, and our population is more spread out so there was some natural isolation.

Re the job numbers, I heard that we're not actually back to pre-pandemic levels if you factor in immigration and new entrants to the workforce.

It still seems that international travel & cruising will not be fully possible for a while yet. And the nutty land-border situation...

Re: Canadian COVID-19 News

Yes, good news about the recent findings on mixing and matching, although this work has not yet been submitted for publication, nor peer-reviewed, so we should be cautious about the conclusion. But yes, good news.

It's also good to see that the USA is now accepting all WHO-approved vaccines. Does Canada?

Now we need to convince the Americans, and others, that mixing and matching different vaccines is OK.

Any Canadians heading south from the great lakes?
What happens when you land in the US with a boat?
I am very interested in Lake Ontario - Oswego to NY?

My understanding is that at this point, you can't. I guess you'd get turned away. But hopefully that will change soon.

U.S. to accept international travellers inoculated with WHO-approved COVID-19 vaccines

6 vaccines that are FDA approved or authorized by WHO will meet criteria, CDC says
The United States will accept international visitors inoculated with COVID-19 vaccines authorized by U.S. regulators or the World Health Organization, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said late on Friday.
...
The new announcement is key for Canadians who received the Oxford-AstraZeneca shot, which was approved by the WHO. The FDA has only approved or listed for emergency use three others: the Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) shots.
so, yay... no word yet about mixed shots, is there?

Most Canadians support health-care workers refusing treatment to threatening, disrespectful unvaccinated patients: Nanos survey

https://www.ctvnews.ca/health/corona...rvey-1.5618360

Nearly two-thirds of Canadians say they support health-care workers refusing treatment to threatening or disrespectful patients who are unvaccinated against COVID-19, according to a new survey from Nanos Research.

ALSO:
According to the poll, the majority of Canadians said that restrictions requiring people to be fully vaccinated to go to indoor public spaces (60 per cent) and back to a workplace (63 per cent) are "just right."

Nanos reports that 14 per cent of respondents said the restrictions for both indoor public spaces and workplaces are too strict, while 22 per cent said they are not strict enough.

Honestly, I'm surprised it's not higher than two-thirds.

I think we can and should do better than that as a society.

My first reaction was that I wouldn't support refusing treatment. Then I reread and realized it was about refusing treatment to those who are abusive/threatening. Then I agreed. (Then again, that likely goes for all, vax or nonvax... unless they have a mental health disorder. Oh, wait a second, by definition, wouldn't that include those not [emoji848] ....)

Plus the 22% (totalling 89%) who say they're not strict enough.

Re: Canadian COVID-19 News

I'm not sure what it has to do with vaccination status. I'd support just about any worker who refused to serve any "threatening or disrespectful" person. Vaccination status seems superfluous.

The other part of the survey on restrictions for unvaccinated make sense.

Yes, that's basically my view too.

G&M:
COVID-19 vaccine registration open for kids aged 5-11, B.C. health officials say

B.C. health officials say parents can now register their children aged five to 11 for the COVID-19 vaccine.
Great news I'd say. I continue to be bemused by the idea that schools aren't major drivers of the pandemic in our societies. Kids might not come down with the disease, but they sure as heck can catch and carry the virus.

Re 2845 & 2846:

Indeed! Count me among the many who would come down hard on those who abuse others or threaten to do so whether that be in public or in private places.

Covid and vaccination status has nothing whatsoever to do with that!

Agreed, although it seems the unvaxxed are usually the ones who resort to violence as their first GoTo.

I deplore their "position" because it makes no sense, and is irrational.

I detest their methods. Ever hear of "peaceful" protest? Nah, not these goons.

I think a forensic psychologist would have a field day looking at their personalities. Lots of common traits.
