Not sure about that, but we've managed to bring this thread back from the dead (closure due to bad behaviour) at least three times now. That must be some sort of record.

Still, agreed, it's always exciting times here in BC
Update on radio just now from Minister Dix (re: health care workers in BC):

118,647 vaccinated (97.1%)
3600 not vaccinated (2.9%)

Re: Canadian COVID-19 News

The noose tightens: This morning CBC carried a news item that all youth coaches and volunteers in BC must now be fully vaccinated.

I wonder how long it will be before WorkSafe BC (the WCB) requires ALL workers to be fully vaccinated? The Board was instrumental at the beginning of the pandemic - imposing mask mandates and social distancing in all workplaces ostensibly to protect fellow workers - but in practice also protecting the general public.

CBC:
Hundreds of thousands of snowbirds expected to flock south after spending last winter hibernating

Quote:
The Canadian Snowbird Association (CSA) estimates that about 30 per cent of Canada's more than one million snowbirds went south last winter. But this year, the CSA predicts about 90 per cent of them will travel south now that they're fully vaccinated and can drive across the border.

Snowbirds have been able to fly to the U.S. during the pandemic, but the CSA said most traditionally drive.

Novavax COVID-19 vaccine submitted for regulatory approval to Health Canada

Another COVID-19 vaccine could soon be on the market as Novavax has officially filed for regulatory approval of its vaccine to Health Canada [1].

The Novavax COVID-19 vaccine is the first protein-based vaccine candidate of its kind. The vaccine was created using recombinant nanoparticulate technology from the first strain of SARS-Cov-2.

Novavax has released data from vaccine trials conducted in June 2021 in U.S. and Mexico. With 30,000 participants in the trials, the U.S.-based company saw a 100 per cent protection against moderate and severe cases of COVID-19 with an overall efficacy of 90.4 per cent. Earlier trials in the U.K. saw the efficiency of the vaccine at 89.3 per cent.

Novavax received recent approval for use in Indonesia [2].
It also intends to follow up and do a “completion of data submission in the European Union.” The company has been busy across the globe with another provisional approval application made for the vaccine in Australia on Oct. 30 [3].

On Sept. 23, Novavax filed for an emergency listing with the World Health Organization [4], which would allow the company to ship to middle and low-income counties, through the COVAX facility.

Re: Canadian COVID-19 News

One unexpected outcome of Covid for me is a distinct tendency to despise headline writers. Half they go for the cheap joke and undercut the importance of the story and then the other half the time they actually get the story wrong.

I just heard someone commenting on CNN's perspective on something by saying "their intent was hardly a sober recitation of facts". I am not even sure our news media aspires to this anymore but it ought to in my opinion. There is no shortage of perspectives on any issue any more but there is a distinct dearth of substantiated facts.
Headlines are a big part of this trend for sure.

Can you imagine the headlines if Bruce Willis dies from a viagra overdose.”
“Bruce Willis dies hard!”

Headline: Dead Cat Discovered on Mars
Looks like 'Curiosity' killed the cat.

What would the headline be, if Joe Biden walked on water, across a lake, in full view of a Fox News reporter?
"BIDEN CAN'T SWIM"

Re: Canadian COVID-19 News

On the question of snowbird travel uptick, from my purely anecdotal perspective I can say this certainly seems to be the case.

I house sit through the winters, and there has been a huge jump in the number of home owners seeking house sitters over the last month. I see at least a dozen new opportunities through my email box every day, and I'm only seeing a small portion of what's available. Last year at this time there were virtually none.

So it sure looks like normal travel patterns are returning.

Citynews:
Elections Canada probed how many Canadians have a 'conspiracy mindset'

Quote:
When it came to conspiracy beliefs, the study, recently posted to a government website, reported 17 per cent believed the government was trying to cover up the link between vaccines and autism, and 30 per cent thought new drugs or technologies were being tested on people without their knowledge.

The research also found 40 per cent of respondents subscribed to thinking that certain big events have been the product of a "small group who secretly manipulate world events."
