What would the headline be, if Joe Biden walked on water, across a lake, in full view of a Fox News reporter?

Re: Canadian COVID-19 News

Of all the sad things that have happened in the past two years, this is the saddest.

Some people might celebrate the victory of democracy — I just shake my head at the stupidity of mob rule. You might not want to ever elect me president of the world

What pisses me off is that this will embolden the antis out there. If you're not willing to follow through on the consequence, don't threaten it. This just teaches the antis they can win if they hold out.

Ontario's decision is cynically political. Ford is leaving it to individual hospitals to make the choice, and take the flack. Many hospitals have already taken this step. But Ford is clearly on the hustings, so doesn't want to take a annoy his base.

Personally, I'm OK with hospital workers being vaccinated OR undergoing frequent testing, as long as it's on their own dime. I do think that's a reasonable accommodation (even when the demand for this accommodation is unreasonable ).

BC seems still to be hanging in there.

It's funny—most of these guys have been parents and I am willing to bet money that most of them have been burned by reversing themselves with their children. But we stick to the stubborn belief that "adults" reason better than "children" when in fact I think the opposite is true in a lot of cases.

Like you Mike, I am not invested in enforcing strict vaccination, but a rule is a rule. Suck it up.

Re: Canadian COVID-19 News

The inconsistencies regarding healthcare workers across Canada are going to add more fuel to the public debate about restrictions. Quebec obviously didn't think enough before they originally announced that their workers would require shots to continue employment. Surely you have to have done some analysis about how many people will refuse to be vaccinated, how many will get vaccinated when the change was announced, and then how you compensate for resultant staff shortages.
We have Legault in PQ saying that it was the right move but they couldn't cope with the staff shortages, Ford in Ontario saying they'll not introduce a vaccine mandate despite some organizational voices calling for it, and then BC introducing a mandate and sticking to it. We have Dr Henry saying that people in healthcare who are refusing to be vaccinated have chosen the wrong occupation.

And then it looks to me like Kenney is trying to throw Hinshaw under a bus in Alberta, almost open warfare between the pols and the public health people. Bonnie Henry has 2 security guards with her at all times in public spaces, even accompanying her on a recent 8k(I think) public run in Victoria. The provincial differences are going to make it even more difficult (and dangerous) for public health people across the country.

And most parents try to figure out whether they can enforce a rule before laying it down in the first place. If you can't, it's a stupid rule. Obviously a missing cognitive step with some of our pols.

Almost 90,000 seniors facing Guaranteed Income Supplement cut for accepting pandemic benefits

Low income seniors who received the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) are seeing their Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) payments clawed back as a result.

GIS is intended to help low income seniors make ends meet. The payments are based on income. A single senior earning less than $19,248 qualifies for GIS. The cutoff for couples can be as high as $46,128, depending on their pension situation.

In 2021, the maximum monthly payment under the program is $948.82.

Scott Bardsley, spokesperson for Minister of Seniors Kamal Khera, said that "because GIS benefits are generally reduced by $1 for every $2 of net income, affected seniors would have received more in CERB or CRB than they lost in GIS."

CBC:
Alberta doctors accused of spreading COVID-19 misinformation face unannounced inspections

Quote:
As opponents of vaccinations, vaccine passports, masking and physical distancing became more vocal, regulatory bodies in other provinces started investigating complaints about doctors providing misinformation on COVID-19, but Alberta's use of unannounced inspections is unusual, one expert says.
