Re: Canadian COVID-19 News

Thanx for #3536, Gordon :-)!

I appreciate your effort, and I'm sure that your intent in posting it was not so much to educate me, as it was to educate GregK who from far away Spain provides us with such trenchant insights into the affairs of this 'ere colony :-)

One learns so very many interesting things by sculling around HolyMotherNet. Among them that Messrs. Pelech and Ross are directors, and, as your post informs us, the ONLY employees of Canadian Covid Care Alliance! Those gentlemen are the eminences grise behind a lot of unsavoury political activities in Canada, activities that are patterned on those we see extant among the political fringe groups on the far right of US politics. Plagiarism is indeed the sincerest form of flattery :-)! And numbered companies are SO very useful, are they not?

One also learns that the gentleman writing from the east coast of Spain, which, so HMN informs me, is in SOUTHERN Europe, has made numerous observations in this forum regarding Covid in NORTHERN Europe. Possibly he has gone there in the Shannon 28 he claims in his public profile he has. So there is a soupçon that this member has an interest in seafaring.

But to the best of my recollection, he has not posted a single thing addressing any aspect of seafaring since he joined us in September of '19. Curious, is it not?

Obviously the gentleman has every right to express any point of view, or give voice to any conviction he may hold, as long as he does it within our rules. And his fellow members of CF have every right to put him on ignore. I won't do that, however. That would be too much like “doing an ostrich” :-)! Far better for all, and far more entertaining, to stay tuned to see what other eidolons he may bring before us :-)

Cheers

TP

Bit of a tangent, but the documentary, The Great Hack, is a real eye opener regarding how large groups of people can be manipulated in these modern Internet times.

The marina has been less than helpful, but thanks to Hpeer, a fellow Lewisporte member and CFer (hope you don't mind me saying so Howard), I have a good line on some local assistance.

As I say, she'll survive. It's just a question of what level of recovery I'll face in the Spring. And in the end, it's only a boat. If it all falls to ruin, I'll find another way.

Agreed , although not unexpected I suppose. The cover has been up for 24/7 since September 2019. It was never designed for this kind of use, so I guess I can't complain too much. But I do fear for what we'll find come the Spring (assuming we can go to NL in the Spring).

Before and after pics... just for fun:
Wow! I've seen torn covers before - but THAT takes first prize!

Wish I could help but it's a little far from snowy Lund, BC!

Thanks Scorpius. I thought the pics would be painfully amusing to see. At least I don't have to ponder whether I can try and fix the cover .

I too have been wishing I was in your neck of the woods... that was until the gods decided they hated BC. First drought, then fire and brimstone, then a biblical deluge, and now bitter cold from the ninth circle of hell. Maybe Newfoundland ain't so bad .

Re: Canadian COVID-19 News

Hospitalizations in Ontario and Quebec continue to rise. Quebec's curve is much more dramatic than Ontario's right now. I wonder why that would be. Perhaps Omicron came to Quebec first?

Sources:
On the positive side, hospitalizations are not rising as rapidly as case counts, so virulence does appear to be much less with this variant. And the 2-dose vaccines are holding up extremely well as protection against severe infection (i.e. hospitalization).

Certainly not against infection, at least from what we see on this chart. And arguing that vaccines protect against severe infection is just plain silly when the variant itself is not particularly virulent regardless of vaccination status.

Stunning data about vaccine failure from Ontario, Canada

Re: Canadian COVID-19 News

Of course, given huge difference between absolute numbers vaccinated vs unvaccinated (~80% vs 20%), one must look at RATES, not raw numbers.

Attachment 250480

But the RATE results also show this odd result (not reflected in results from other jurisdictions, such as NYC, below)

NOTE: for some reason, I cannot seem to delete all the incorrect Ontario age-based figures shown below (wrong dates... website notes there is a problem). Ignore them.

Re: Canadian COVID-19 News

Maybe it's higher poutine consumption?

I'm in BC, 61 years old, and just got my booster notice for January 6th. We don't party big at New Years, so hopefully I'll be able to keep on the Covid sidelines until then. My wife is 4 years younger, so she has to wait a bit longer.

Her mother and immunocompromised younger brother got their boosters a long time ago.

Re: Canadian COVID-19 News

And what REALLY matters is protection against severe disease.

December 29th Ontario numbers show this (raw numbers showing proportionally more hospitalization and ICU among UNvaccinated; remember, there are 4x more vaccinated in population compared to unvaccinated):
