Re: CANADIAN COVID-19 NEWS

Different cultures & attitudes. Both Canada & US are free countries with nominal democratic "majority rules" government. Each country is free to enact & enforce it's own laws within it"s own borders. / Len

The snowbird migration path is going to change this winter. Parkas will be in short supply.

Parkas? We don't need no stinkin' parkas!

But ya, there's gonna be a whole lot of chilly old folk this winter

Indeed: Alberta government cracks down on bad behavior on public land

As for the whole snowbird exodus, I can certainly attest to its serious reduction. I usually house sit through the winters, and there has been a significant reduction in the number of people looking for sitters. I've actually had three cancellations now that people realize that can't travel.

Some are starting to look to Europe, or elsewhere. But for many Canadians with RVs or property in the USA, they just don't have many other options.

P.S Anyone looking for a house sitter this winter? I'm still homeless .

Re: CANADIAN COVID-19 NEWS

I can tell you one option...RV’s wintering in Vancouver Island. Try to get a spot at RV parks this winter in the popular areas on Vancouver Island, almost impossible. We have cruising friends that have a home back east and they are traveling out west to winter on Vancouver Island. Asked for help in finding a spot. I figured that should be easy but I didn’t take in the fact that there is no place for Snowbirds in the South. Turns out almost everything is booked up out here for this winter.

Figures... What about the south Okanagan? Having spent a few winters in Penticton, I can see that as a possible winter destination.

I wonder how long the lineup will be for campgrounds around Edmonton.

Re: CANADIAN COVID-19 NEWS

Our boat is in Blaine, WA a few hundred yards away from Canada. I am actually surprised by the low level of control.

I didn't see much of any control along the border. I can see boat crossing the border and entering Canadian's water without any problem (they may of course don't go offshore after - I don't know). No later than Sunday we were walking at low tie and we saw someone crossing the bay by foot and desapear in the other side (Canada).

Anyway, I hope that the situation will get better soon. We would like to sail again the wonderful coast of BC!

Well here's a guy, that even if he had permission, who isn't doing his countrymen any favours. People are spooked enough without rich men and their super yachts transiting the waters. People are bound to think the worst...

Re: CANADIAN COVID-19 NEWS

And now there is a boater related outbreak.

Quote:
A boating trip involving multiple families is behind a spike in COVID-19 cases in southwestern Ontario as the Ministry of Health reports a fourth day in a row with fewer than 100 new cases across the province.

Re: CANADIAN COVID-19 NEWS

Kinda inevitable... What kind of boating trio was it? I can't see the article since it's behind a paywall.
