Re: CANADIAN COVID-19 NEWS

I've been pleasantly surprised at Doug Ford's response to the crisis. But I think he learned his lesson from his first year where his popularity absolutely tanked, and then he became persona non grata during the federal election.

When you're being snubbed in favour of Jason Kenney you gotta know something is wrong with your approach.

Mostly what border rules and regulations have to do with politics.

Re: CANADIAN COVID-19 NEWS

Thirty-four posts have been deleted. Some of those merely quoted deleted posts, the rest were political wrangling, which is the working definition of "becoming disruptive".

This is the last opportunity for you to keep the Canadian Covid thread open. Stay away from emotionally laden statements about nationality, and national politics. Report posts that you think are out of line, rather than complaining within the thread. In general, behavior perceived as trolling thrives on your complaint within a thread, but extinguishes when reported, through lack of reinforcement.

Well someone had to try it...

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/north...avut-1.5698347

It really amazes me the number of people that don't understand territorial waters and the concept that isolated communities are especially vulnerable...

Re: CANADIAN COVID-19 NEWS

Here's a fun one:

New Zealander sails through Arctic on custom yacht in violation of COVID-19 restrictions

Quote:
'I am a yacht, not a bloody cruise ship,' says Peter Smith, who's adamant he will not be turned around

According to the Canadian government, he has no business being there.
But 72-year-old Peter Smith is sailing the Northwest Passage anyway, in violation of COVID-19-related orders prohibiting most foreign yachts from entering Canadian waters.

Since June 1, Transport Canada has prohibited pleasure craft from operating in Arctic waters "to better protect Arctic communities" from the spread of COVID-19.

Re: CANADIAN COVID-19 NEWS

A Kentucky man is facing $569,000 in fines after being accused of violating Canada's COVID-19 rules.

John Pennington was arrested and charged by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police after officials said he breached Canada's travel rules during the coronavirus pandemic. Americans are currently barred from traveling through Canada unless they're driving to and from Alaska — people who spend the night must quarantine in their hotel. Pennington was initially fined $910 ($1,200 Canadian) on June 25 after hotel staff called police on him, accusing him of violating the quarantine. Instead of leaving Banff the next day, he went to Sulphur Mountain, where police arrested him and charged him with breaching the federal Quarantine Act in Canada. If he's convicted, he faces a $569,000 fine ($750,000 Canadian) or six years in prison.

Re: CANADIAN COVID-19 NEWS

I think Canadians should step lightly on this 72 year old Kiwi adventurer, making a right of passage thru disputed territorial waters.

Otherwise you will appear petty and a cowardly bully by picking on an isolated Kiwi rather than all those US boater, doing the same thing in far more populated areas

I applaud him for his resolve and his commitment to maintain isolation away from locals while following his bucket list.

Re: CANADIAN COVID-19 NEWS

So we have a forum advisor who thinks the Canadians should allow Kia Roa's passage through the NW channel, at the same time as they are jailing others who violate their borders.

To me, the laws should be enforced on everyone the same. It is unequal enforcement that really annoys people. Fine enforcement will never be fair, unless it were framed as a percentage of total wealth. As it is, people with big budgets do not suffer as much from quarantine violation fines as people with small budgets.
