Re: CANADIAN COVID-19 NEWS

New projections from the Public Health Agency of Canada:
The latest federal modelling on the COVID-19 pandemic shows that, in the short-term, Canada's epidemic is set to keep growing, predicting up to 155,795 total cases and 9,300 deaths by Oct. 2.
There are currently nearly 11,000 active COVID-19 cases in Canada, while another 126,230 patients have recovered. To date, more than 9,200 Canadians have died from the novel coronavirus.
Cases reported now reflect increasing transmission one to two weeks ago, and the projections indicate that if Canada maintains its current rate of contacts, the epidemic will resurge. In order to regain control of the epidemic growth, Canadians need to decrease their contact with others. Dr. Theresa Tam, Canada's chief public health officer, is also driving home that it’s time to re-adopt the personal protection and separation measures that were taken in March and April to have a change at reversing the epidemic growth seen in recent days.
The data shows that the spread of the virus is accelerating nationally, but unevenly across Canada, with the Atlantic bubble not seeing the same surge in cases as other provinces are.
Hospitalizations lag behind increases in reported cases but show early signs of increase, while COVID-19-related deaths remain low.
The August modelling showed the rate of infections has hit young adults between the ages of 20 and 39 the hardest since June. This continues to be the case, as shown in Today's figures.

You know that 2020 has been quite a year when a hurricane is off shore heading your way and you go "...whatever..."

Agreed. It's not just that this fellow broke Covid-19 rules. He flagrantly disregarded the most basic requirement of legally clearing into Canada. I'm a bit surprised they let him off so easily.

Re: CANADIAN COVID-19 NEWS

There are currently three Canadian flagged boats at anchor at Cape May, New Jersey, all flying the Q flag as if waiting for clearance.

Anyone have any idea what there situation could be? If they were just flying their national flags, you could say they they may have been already here before the closure, but they are flying the Q flag. If they were trying to 'sneak' through, under the radar, then again, why fly the Q flag. They are also anchored right in front of a Coast Guard base, and two of them are broadcasting AIS. All seems perfectly legit if it not for the border closure.

Any ideas?

2021 Vancouver Boat Show Cancelled

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 6th, 2020
Vancouver, B.C. – For the past 58 years the Vancouver International Boat Show has signalled the upcoming
boating season in British Columbia, a region known as one of the premier boating locations in the world. In
February of this year, the show hosted over 250 exhibitors and welcomed upwards of 30,000 guests to the five
day event held simultaneously at two locations (BC Place Stadium and an in-water display at Granville Island).
Sigh.

I believe at this point the border "closure" is more one way than not. Canada is only letting Americans in under very specific circumstances, while the US is letting in Canadians under a much broader scope. AFAIK know that scope is so broad as to be reasonably unrestricted subject, as always, to CBP's whims...

Canadian boats are allowed in usa. Just not allowed direct passage from canada to usa.
Our boat is in virginia and we flew here a couple months ago(while land and sea borders were closed)
We renewed our cruising permit with CBP in mid September.
All legally and properly.
If they are in cape may, I would assume they arrived there from offshore. Either seeking safe harbour, or continuing to a check in port. Perhaps Norfolk?

It depends. I'm all for very tough penalties in the face of repeat or flagrant offenders. But I'd say the current approach is working very well. As the story states:

Quote:
Since the agency introduced tougher measures on July 31, more than 99 per cent of Americans making the trek have complied with the requirement to leave Canada on their mandated exit date, she [CBSA spokesperson Ashely Lemire] said.
