Yes... the first glimmer of hope for those of us with boats in the Atlantic region (who are not from there). I've read suggestions from PEI and NB that they'd like to see the Maritimes open to the rest of Canada by July. Whether that means NL will open is uncertain at this point (my boat is in NL).

As we have verified speaking with CBSA, there is a different set of rules for those who simply want to go from one part of the US to another part of the US, through Canadian waters. Keeping within the restrictions laid out in the link I supplied, we can do so.
At this point in time the rules are the same as most of last year. You are allowed free passage through Canadian waters but if you drop anchor, dock, or come along side another vessel, your travel needs to be non-discretionary. Since few small vessels can or should make the trip without stopping to anchor, it becomes a de facto ban on non-essential travel.

CBSA didn't consider cruising in Alaska to be a non-discretionary activity in most of 2020 under the current rules. There's nothing that would indicate they will allow passage through BC to cruise Alaska this year without changes in border policy.

U.S. plans to send 1.5 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine to Canada
The United States plans to send roughly 4 million doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, that it is not using [not yet approved for use in USA], to Canada [1.5 million] and Mexico [2.5 million], through loan deals with the two countries, the White House confirmed today.
Final details being worked out, doses could arrive by month's end.

What?

Ok, Montreal and QC are great towns for dining and good times, but besides those, we Ontariolians head EAST for good times. Halifax! St Johns!

Yes, a good sign. But the rules during the previous Atlantic Bubble still didn't allow non-residents from entering Newfoundland. I could travel to NB, NS or PEI from Ontario as long as I could quarantine for 14 days. But NL remained closed to anyone who resided outside the bubble.

But a good sign indeed.

Mike, did you try again after NL changed their rules (Aug 31) regarding out-of-province property owners?

You know Mike, i just occurs to me now that you might consider hitting rock bottom and try a journalist... You know "Couple sells everything and sails off on adventure only to be locked out of home...", "Homeless because of covid..." Great human interest angle. You never know, sometimes those Marketplace exposes actually help and at the very least it would put you (and others like you) in the queue to returning home.

Of course that' means giving up a little (or more likely a lot) of your hard-fought privacy for a hail mary ... <shudder>

I didn't, mainly because I'd already moved on to Plan B for the season (motorcycling across western Canada and around BC). But I have friends in the same boat () who tried six times. No joy.

I've actually thought of doing that Mac. I still have friends at CBC, so could... But the truth is, despite all my whining , I do understand why NL has taken such a strict approach. And although it has thrown my entire life and lifestyle into a tailspin, I still can't fault their cautious approach.

This too shall pass. As long as I can get eyes on my boat this season sometime, and hopefully fix what needs fixing, then I'm prepared to wait another year.

Re: CANADIAN COVID-19 NEWS

Mike,

Another Hail Mary idea.

You come down here then we sail straight, non-stop to St Johns (or Grand Banks) and present as returning citizens.

The down side is you would then need to help me deliver my boat back to the Caribbean at end of season.

Think you could stand the hardship?

BTW, I just took a TENTATIVE 2 month contract on a slip on the Chesapeake for June and July.

I explained things may change and they were good with that.

You should hear our other “tentative plans”, we really are loosing it! LOL

That is interesting. I wonder what they would do if we washed up on the shore at St. John's? Couldn't very well turn us away at that point. Hmmm...

Actually, weren't you able to enter since you own actual real estate on the island? Didn't they open it up to that level last summer?

We did not try. My understanding was the travel restrictions applied to land owners, you had to be “resident” to get in.

Did not check myself.
