Re: corona virus alerts - Latest cruising Information for vessels/locations/rules

For the second time this month, the European Union extended its travel ban on Americans on Thursday, as COVID-19 infections continued to rise across the United States.

The announcement, by the European Council, came after EU officials conducted their biweekly review of travel restrictions, examining coronavirus trends and containment measures in each country to determine whether to add or narrow the list of permitted travelers.

The key measurement: The pandemic outbreak in a given country needs to be equally contained – or better – than in the EU.

Here are the dozen countries where citizens are approved to visit the EU. The list has not changed from two weeks ago, when Montenegro and Serbia were removed:

Australia

Canada

Georgia

Japan

Morocco

New Zealand

Rwanda

South Korea

Thailand

Tunisia

Uruguay

China, subject to confirmation of reciprocity

Thursday's decree does not apply to travel to Britain, which left the EU in January.

The U.S. State Department has advised Americans against all international travel since March.

Actually the land/state data is quite relevant (to me). Plan on making a 3000 mile trip to Florida next week in search of a floating home. It’s nice to know what to expect and how to plot the trip. It’s looking dicey with every passing day.

US passport holders (before Jan 2020) had visa free access to 146 countries. As of yesterday you now can only visit 29........

Re: corona virus alerts - Latest cruising Information for vessels/locations/rules

A gentle thread topic reminder: Covid related rules pertaining to locations with relationship to transit of vessels, or access to vessels.

FYI: Most places require wearing masks in public or indoors.

Don't leave home or boat without them.

And there are mandates and recommendations for specific non-pharmaceutical intervention protocols, e.g., maintaining distance, avoiding touching and singing.

By ways of example.

Re: corona virus alerts - Latest cruising Information for vessels/locations/rules

This one thread in the Covid 19 Forum is being kept to the original subject, of opening or closing boundaries affecting sailors. The original intent -- which we are trying to keep to -- is so that people who suddenly find themselves with their intended destination closed to them will be able to find out in advance. This is being taken to also be interstate restrictions within the US.

Sixteen posts have been deleted this morning, following one off topic post that led to a lot of political comment. There are other threads and other venues for that. Please keep this thread strictly for information, with appropriate links.

Thank you.

corona virus alerts - Latest cruising Information for vessels/locations/rules

I can feel sorrow for those who may get denied entry due to someone previously thinking they can do as they wish.

For those who have network feedback it sounds like landfall during cyclone season is a moving target.

Assume nothing is what I’m getting from this thread. What was allowed yesterday may not be true today.

Unless you are a citizen of your destination then you must follow the rules as they exist at the time you enter.

Well, we are no longer contagious here. Friends in NW Passage report the same, as do fishing boats in Iceland.

This may have been posted before. The list has been updated for US interstate travel restrictions for those heading to New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Those three states are working in concert. See https://coronavirus.health.ny.gov/co...ravel-advisory .

Travel from listed states to NY/NJ/CT requires a 14-day quarantine. Travelers are expected to self-quarantine BUT it is supposed to be a real quarantine, not one of going out for groceries et al.

Also worth noting based on recent personal experience, one-way car rentals are becoming quite difficult. Enterprise has limits (number of cars) and restrictions (minimum rental periods). Hertz, on shaky financial ground anyway, won't rent one-way at all. Budget has been pretty good but their footprint outside airports is not great.
