No, they are not, unless their employer reports their income to the state. Which will not be the case if you are simply answering email messages while on vacation in Hawaii. You need to have source of income from the State to owe income tax to them.

I have been in Trinidad/Tobago and Granada couple of years ago and was impressed with the large number of boats sitting around, for sale or even abandoned. Is this buying frenzy also emptying these local inventories or not because of the Covid imposed difficulty to even get there ?

This is the first year of the past 6 where the marina said if you don’t pay on time you might not have a slip in 2021
