When we visited China, and granted we were only in one area of China but we did move around a bit, we saw ONE fat Chinese guy. ONE. He obviously had money based on his clothes, his stuffing money in one collection box after another in the temple, oh, yeah, he was FAT, so he was likely eating expensive western food.

We had rice with every dinner but lunch was usually something with noodles. Breakfast was eggs but I suspect the Chinese were eating rice porridge. We lost weight in China. At least 10 pounds. We noticed this and wondered why. The only thing we could figure out is that the food quality was better, it was real food, not processed western cr...p, nor full of fructose corn syrup.

On our first trip to Scotland and Ireland, we lost weight again, and we think for the same reason, better quality food.

Third trip to Ireland, well, we did not gain weight. Blame it on the stout and crisps.

And Seaworth Lass is correct, we have huge numbers of preventable deaths in the US due to poor diet, lack of exercise and smoking. I think the large US population that is overweight and out of shape caused our large pandemic death count. That and forcing flu patients into nursing homes full of the most vulnerable population.

Helsinki today. Spring, and a young man's fancy turns to sailing. A few weeks ago the sea was frozen, but today there are white sails scudding across Helsinki harbour, and the ferries are taking tourists to the islands. It's going to be a glorious summer for this vaccinated sailor. Click image for larger version

You are exactly correct - coin flip is equally good. So you should claim 200 B reward for test manufacture, instead of whatever company produces the test.
From what I've learned false positives occur more often than false negatives.

During the peak when testing facilities were still being ramped up, the tests were processed in batches with a high risk of cross contamination of samples.

This was considered a plus as a false positive meant unnecessary quarantine, while a false negative meant potentially a super spreader not realizing they had it.

I believe 78 cases have been found in London so far.. just have to see what pops up in the rest of the country.

Probably so. With the other variants there's usually a lot of initial alarmism out of the media, but later we find out that the vaccines are more effective than initially reported. I think the experts are right to warn us against complacency since there are many unknowns, but then there's the problem of the boy who (repeatedly) cried wolf. Or is it "if it bleeds it leads"?

Or.. Keep the momentum going and if push comes to shove we can modify the booster shots..

Yep, but we did not see a deep fried Mars bar. We did pass a chip shop but it was closed.

We did have some very good Haggis.

The best nachos we have ever eaten, hands down, none even close, was in Campbeltown, Scotland. I did not realize the Scots invented nachos. The nachos had haggis and some awesome tasting cheese. The plate was enough for six or eight people. Three of us ate it all and then had dinner.

Yet, we lost weight on that trip. Somehow. Go figure.
