Nipah virus is also known as “NiV”, but everyone [WHO, Gavi, CDC, etc] seem to, still, be calling it “Nipah”.

There are no existing vaccines or treatments, but a phase 1 clinical study of a Nipah virus vaccine candidate (HeV-sG-V) started in February 2020 and is expected to be completed in September 2021. The Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) invested US$ 25 million in 2018 to kickstart an initial safety study that is run by Auro Vaccines LLC and led by PATH, and conducted at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati, USA. The vaccine will be tested in healthy adults aged 18-49 years to assess the safety and how well the vaccine triggers an immune response.

David Rowe's editorial cartoon, showing Scotty from Marketing as the leader of naught but the notional cabinet/ground staff while Major Dom flies overhead, coupled with Laura Tingle's oped titled 'The most abject failure of leadership in living memory,' say it all:

Re: The Reality of Living in Australia and Covid

I bet Scotty ( previously known as the PM for Anouncements ) had little appetite for lunch.
This can go one of two ways but if DP crashes and burns he will be crashing right on top of Scotty.

As a commentator here https://www.pedestrian.tv/news/scott...ional-borders/ says - and I paraphrase 'Premiers don't see the need to cultivate a long term relationship with this PM'

Sitting here musing on day 1...

Dog is confused - no traffic passing by to bark at. Not that there is much traffic even on a busy day but usually there is enough for him to raise a bark or two.

As for the Canberra bubble - you couldn't make this stuff up.

First up the future monarch is miffed at the attitude of the pm and mumbles stuff which falls on a deaf ear. Glasgow ain't worth 14 days solitary for and to leave a mouthy ruddy faced ex KIWI in charge and going off script is a bridge too far.

Not used to insurrection in the colonies since 1775 and not looking a repeat of the Falklands, the Supreme Governor of the Church of England pulls the open mic stunt to sort out the subjects down under. Nothing like speaking in tongues to pull the faithful in line. And the big fella upstairs decides to loosen both barrels by tugging the ear of a saint of the other side of the coin who dutifully lets slomo off the hook of 14 days quaro on return; Praise be!

Now only the not so inconsequential problem of chatterbox of New England needs resolving before the idiot man from marketing can enjoy finding some distant rellies in Glasgow for a photo op.

Maybe that WA fella moving from iron ore to hydrogen will sit on baby sit the dummy spitters from the bush coal mines until the return of the miracle believer 'cause old mate Brian has his hands full of other matters concerning the truth seekers.

Should’ve stuck to the squid pole. Mine is still (mostly) vertical.

NSW Supreme Court rules on vaccine mandates
https://www.theage.com.au/national/n...15-p590ff.html
'A legal challenge to NSW public health orders that restrict the activities of residents who have not been vaccinated against COVID-19 – including their ability to work in certain industries – has failed in the state’s Supreme Court.

Justice Robert Beech-Jones on Friday dismissed two lawsuits challenging a number of public health orders made by NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard, including those that mandate vaccines for health and aged care workers, NSW Police, staff in public schools and preschools and the construction industry.

This bit of that article deserves clarification
'There will be no travel limits within metropolitan Melbourne, the premier said, though residents of the city will not be able to travel outside the city without permission.'
What counts as 'Metropolitan Melbourne' these days is about 130 kilometres east to west and the same north to south. The 'City of Melbourne' is a very small area in the middle with a very small population

Map of Metropolitan Melbourne can be found in this piece.

Re: The Reality of Living in Australia and Covid

Snap 3 day lockdown in Southern Tas to end at midnight tonight but with some restrictions - the principle one being masks are now required outside.

Tassie joins the rest of the masked world.

Link and more later!

EDIT - Mask wearing extends to this coming Friday - to be reviewed on Friday.
