Well answered!

I've worked in Aus embassies, but never in the consular section.

I guess that many of the 'reconsider' and 'do not' are about [1] the cost of providing consular assistance to Aussies; and [2] not wanting to encourage the export of money and nous to certain polities/economies.

Rather than posting alarmist rubbish from the Daily Wail you could at least go to the source of the story, the Brisbane Times https://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/nat...27-p593kz.html

Also note that much of the 'covid debt' involves unpaid hotel quarantine fees.
'By October 8, 44,350 invoices had been issued for hotel quarantine in Queensland, of which 10.8 per cent were significantly overdue. Those who did not pay up, or successfully applied for a waiver, would also be referred to debt collectors.'
What would you suggest the state does with this debt? Which by the way does not involve fines but actual money which the state has paid on people's behalf to the hotel owners.

That sensationalist photo from the Wail that you posted has nothing to do with the story and was not even taken in Queensland. It was taken on St Kilda Beach, Melbourne, Victoria, some months ago and shows a rabid anti-vaxx ratbag being taken into custody for breaking the law.

You really must try harder.

The Reality of Living in Australia and Covid

El Ping, although I applaud your attempts to bring facts to the table, the reality is that the sort of knuckle-dragging morons who repost this click-bait nonsense are rarely even CAPABLE of reading the news stories they link. As such they wouldn’t have a chance in hell of realising that the whole article is spent backpedaling from the sensationalist headline in ways that would make a defamation lawyer blush.

My advice remains, ignore the loons. They are beyond help and certainly beyond reasoning.

Virus may or may not have started in China
Not proven yet
It was first reported there, but that not not mean it originated there or that it was manufactured by China.

Speaking to a chum in Ecuador this morning for the first time in a while.

He reckons covid is very much yesterday's news which the stats seem to bear out - Pop 18 million, 7 day moving average daily cases 117, deaths 3.

He also reckons the far greater risk is copping a drug related bullet in Guayaquil

G'day Bruce, good to know that your mate's dad with the big nose no longer has a nose bleed.

Meanwhile , outside the hermit kingdom and the world of Kim Il McGowan, many are still living with the reality of Covid in Straya.

Good to hear you are enjoying some serious sailing - and with good inet . Lucky you.

You might need an upgrade with your tech mate. I'm doing my email stuff at anchor after a 60 nm leg of my 1,800 nm winter cruise. You can do both in and from the boat these days.

Re: The Reality of Living in Australia and Covid

Some Victorian mandates are purely punitive for the unvaccinated:

We have just received the updated guidelines from Golf Australia and the Government, and it is now clearly mandated that all golfers must be fully vaccinated as from 6.00pm on Friday 29 October.
Vic.Gov.Au

What could be not just safer, but beneficial to health than a few hours exercising in fresh air, with a maximum of three other people that can be easily waved off with a five iron if they venture too close .

That would be an opinion you are expressing there?
Some may see 'punitive' - others see 'incentive'.

The number of unvaccinated golfers in Victoria would now be vanishingly small and if they aren't willing to wait three weeks for their second shot they can always drive to Moama or Mulwala from Monday onwards for a game
https://www.canberratimes.com.au/sto...an-travellers/

91% of over 16s in Vic have had at least one shot, 80% are fully vaxxed.
Of the over 50's the first shot number is well above 95% and very close to 100%

I wonder how you lot will feel if Dan gets his unprecedented draconian laws passed by the senate next week,
They have passed the lower house already,

Severe coercion to have a medical procedure done is a far more appropriate description than “incentive”.
And that is NOT merely a opinion.

If the number concerned is “vanishingly small”, why impose this mandate at all?
