Re: The Reality of Living in Australia and Covid

Hey, Guys,

Just saw this on ABC: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-09-...-act/100481732

Earthquakes are rare in Oz. I wonder how the Melbourne evacuations will interact with Covid quarantine; and also, how the damaged roads, etc. will interfere with vaccination programs.

Re: The Reality of Living in Australia and Covid

All happening today in Melbourne. The quake was a fun distraction for about an hour. Not much damage, the press have only found one building that has partialy lost a wall.

The live protest vs police action is better than the Grand Final Parade.

Re: The Reality of Living in Australia and Covid

I think it is a good day in Melbourne , finally people dont have to listen to Covid 19 24 hours a day.

The earthquake was a non event , that one wall most likely would have come down sooner or later anyway. Rest of Melbourne and mansfield no damages at all.

Isn’t it a statistical truism that some people are smarter* [or make better decisions] than others?
I think I know which are which [& why].
Q: Why are vaccinated people smarter than the average unvaxed person?
A: Because 2 heads are better than one.

* As George Carlin put it: "Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that."

I have been mocked today by Kiwi friends who say a #6 is neither here nor there. However just because it didn't kill me doesn't mean it didn't give me a bit of a start.
True- it wasn the full Iquique...

I had sailed from here a few weks previously...

Meanwhile be thankful you live in Dan's Delightful State.

It could be a lot worse - the full Gladys

Now what is wrong with Gladys?

I think that is a bit unfair , i think most Victorians of course would now like to live in QLD but their second option would be NSW for sure.

I still stand by my words that Gladys still has a long career , we might call her Madam PM one day.

GB took office as Premier of NSW on 23 January 2017.

Simple math will tell you that on 22 January 2022 she will reach the magic point of having been Premier for 5 years.

That qualifies her for free gravy: a free office with equipment and staff, a driver, expenses, travel, etc etc for the rest of her days on this planet. Usually assumed to be worth six figures of taxpayers' money.

GB has indicated that she is prepared to stand down. And once qualified for free gravy, I wager she is likely to do so.

A follow-up question is whether the political party of which she is a member, and the factions of that party, can reach agreement about a post-GB leader. The second leg of the follow-up question is: were GB to leave Parliament, prompting a by-election, who benefits (meaning who gets the nod for her seat)?

The original question then becomes whether the approach to that magic date is motivating other persons to expend effort to ensure that GB never qualifies for free gravy. I wager the answer to that is yes, given action already taken in the upper house.

ICAC and its actions will be a key part of the answer. The McGuire issue is the pointy end. A new follow-up question arises: given that ICAC has been responsible for the exit of two NSW premiers to date, dare it be responsible for a third?

GB's conduct wrt public heath policy is likely irrelevant to the question.

Your homework questions are: How many ex-state premiers have made a transition to federal parliament in Aus? How many have become PM?

Love your responses and knowledge , is really nice to see that there are still people that actually do know some history but i respectfully leave the homework questions for you.

I bet you have all the details.

I still stand by what i said so if i am still around after the 22. 01.2022 and if we still have the freedom to use this forum we can have a look at Gladys again.

The Aus Parliamentary Handbook has the answer of the number. I'm still without names.
