Affordable boat spot - any recommendations ?

Dear Sailors,
planning to get a small cruiser, but need a spot to have her. As I'm looking for a sturdy boat, I will not go with a Trailer sailboat.
I'm looking for a place to have the boat year long, dont need any luxury, just safe place to have the boat, that will not cost arm and leg. if possible in water for 1/2 of the year and on shore for the second.
What is the most affordable/cheapest way to have a less than 30ft boat "parked"? As I'm in central EU without direct sea access I'm not picky on the location either, just as long as its Mediterranean, or Spain/Portugal Atlantic side.
Any recommendations?

Boatie, we really need you to write a book, or at least a long thread, on this topic! I bet there are a lot more folks who would really like this kind of info!

Thanks for the recommendations, any particular reason why you choose this spots, just the price? You recommend the marinas there, or other local ways to have the boat moored?

Don.. there's not enough 'low (<$1k) budget sailors' left on CF to be worth the effort.. they've either died or moved on to other sites.
Few Klingons remain..

Alvor Lagoon. Portugal Algarve.
Been here at anchor/mooring for few months.
Anchorage is free, but tidal, mooring ball, if you can get one, between 100€ and 130€ a month.
Fishermen going at full speed past you is obnoxious, but can't be avoided unfortunately. Apart from that, very sheltered.

At the risk of an off-topic to the thread you may be making a good point Boatie. I am certainly in the Klingon tribe but do aspire to winning lotto (but I'm too tight and poor to buy tickets).

Downunder here where we are all upside down it is, me thinks a similar situation to Europe. Mooring and anchoring fields are being restricted or just cancelled. And huge expensive marinas are built in their place. So Kilingons are expected to pay nigh on the equivalent or their yacht's value (or more) each year just to moor.

Presumably great Britain at least has seen this horrific European trend reversed since Brexit.

Yaay.!!! I'm not alone..

As for expensive marinas in the UK.. that's why we invented bilge keelers and tidal moorings..

Look at Gozo north of Malta, my information is that many UK boaters leave their boats there, wet or dry storage.

Not cheap and very bouncy when the ferry goes in and out in many berths.

At the mouth of the Rhône, Port Navy service or Port Napoléon, both within walking distance of Port st Louis du Rhône. Only port Napoléon has wet berths as well as the port á sec

Re: Affordable boat spot - any recommendations ?

I have doubts that there are cheaper than Franziska’s suggestion. Alvor Lagoon. Portugal Algarve — 130€ per month to free!

But before the pandemic, I was looking at marina’s in the North Adriatic.
Italy, South of Venice was attractively priced for winter.

If you’re driving from Central Europe, that could well be attractive.

My other pre-pandemic plan was Rajeka, Croatia— for summer if not year round.

It is an ugly industrial port. Ergo, not ideal for tourists, like most of the Croatian coast - and therefore cheaper.

However, boating in Croatia, if you locate there, does require getting a “boat drivers licence.” If I recall correctly, it is a written exam and then boat using test, like with an auto, done in one afternoon.

At first I thought, how ridiculous! But looking deeper into it, there are affordable vendors who will prepare you, even online. Thus, the total cost of two or three hundred dollars (at most) and one weekend to test seemed quite doable, if one wants to have a home port there.

I hope this helps you!

Re: Affordable boat spot - any recommendations ?

I have a offer from a marina in Slovenia its 3600 EUR/Year for under 8m, and 4850EUR under 10m, while the next size is 6490EUR, thats a big difference. And obviously much more than the Portugal Marina
