Re: Beautiful Cowes

what a trip down the memory lane, thank you Dockhead!!!... my first sailing experiences and then all the training up to Yachtmaster was in the Solent (was living in UK-London at the time). It is true what they say, once you've learned to sail in the Solent - you can handle just about anything else the sea throws at you later in life with ease... Chapeaux Bas to all of you Brit sailors here!

Wrong Island I think, we are talking the TT Race??. That would be the Isle of Man, which in my opinion is very scenic, and very very busy during the TT.
Not really geared up for yachts though, Douglas marina can be a nightmare in a big boat, Peel is better.
Heading over there in May

I think your getting confused with the Isle of Man and the TT Races...
They don't do the spectators dash anymore as there were to many fatal crashes on the circuit..

Pretty serious list to port there.

Was it a windy day in Cowes or just a lot of excellent beers ?

Certainly true:

Yarmouth
Lymington
Beaulieu

and of course:

Portsmouth

Lots of things to do as a tourist in Portsmouth and in picturesque Beaulieu. Lymington very pretty if rather posh and touristy. Yarmouth is lovely and has one of the best restaurants on the South Coast (the George) if you want to splash out.

But Cowes is the least touristy, authentic, cheap and good.

LOL. Yes, the restaurant had just endured a 90 degree knockdown in a squall

Re: Beautiful Cowes

If anyones around 25th to 27th May this year, there is the annual YOGAFF (Yarmouth Old Gaffers Festival) at Yarmouth just six miles west from Cowes and directly opposite our home port of Lymington.

It's three days of partying with some classic racing thrown in, well worth getting there. Programs at - yarmoutholdgaffersfestival.co.uk

If you do come then PM us and we can share a cleansing ale. They usually have 35 + to choose from.....

Cheers
JOHN
