Best marina netween rhodos and santorini

We need to leave our 45 foot monohull in a marina for a month (October or November). Somewhere cheap and safe between Rhodos and Santorini. Any good advice? What price should I expect ? Thanks.

I can offer 850 € (electricity, water and taxes included) for two months, either in Marmaris or Orhaniye, if you consider Turkey as an option.

Cheers

Re: Best marina netween rhodos and santorini

There are zero marinas that are safe to leave a boat for a month between Rhodes and Santorini, including Santorini. Rhodes has the new marina but I don't know enough about it to recommend it. You could look at Kos Marina, but it is quite expensive for Greece. I'd check out Yeloya's marina in Marmaris as it is in a beautiful location and easy to get international flights.

Agmar marina on north Leros is another option. Only out of water while Evros marina offer both in water and hard standing.

Leros is 100 nm north of both Rhodes and Santorini. If this is not an issue, there are certainly many other options. On the other hand, as many boats left Turkey, the marina prices in Greece has increased quite a bit and they are all full. If there is still available berths in Leros, something must be wrong with it ..

Cheers

1. I have nothing against Marmaris (my personal boat is there for the winter.
2. Marmaris is not exactly 'between Rhodes and Santorini' either.
3. As far as I see, the sailing distance between Rhodes/Mandraki to Leros/Lakki is about 85NM to NW (not 100NM).
4. I do not know any marina on the direct line between Rhodes and Santorini, so any solution to the query must be a little out of the way (unless somebody will bring new info about a marina unknown to me on this line - I would be very happy to learn as next year we are going this direction again)

Re: Best marina netween rhodos and santorini

The OP asked for a marina. However, it is possible (although less safe) to leave your boat on a town quay, e.g. Katopoula/Amorgos or in Yalos/Ios.
In my opinion and experience it is OK once you find a local trustworthy guy to keep an eye on the boat (against payment of course).
We have done that this year in Lemnos (north Aegean). I have made friends with the local Port Police officers and they have recommended a local diver/fisherman who kept an eye on our boat for a month. I know for sure that he visited the boat daily and took care of the mooring when Meltemi struck the area.
Agreed - marina is a better/safer solution.

Rhodes marina has been accepting yachts since 2015. Rhodes Marinas

Vlichada on Santorini will usually have space inside and alongside in October when the escursion catamarans have stopped operating. Ring Dimitris taverna above the harbour to check the situation +30 2286 082532.

The number for Vlychada office is (probably...) +30 22860 82119.
Jim - why do you suggest calling the restaurant instead of the marina directly?

Laziness - 'cos the only phone number I had for the office never replied. Dimitris did reply, his English was good, and I usually hired a car when visiting!

Rhodes marina has been accepted yachts since last year, not since 2015. Last winter three boats sank there as it's exposed to huge swells.. I don't recommend at all. Old marina (Mandrake) is much safer and just in the middle of the town but I understand port authorities are forcing people to the new marina as it is almost empty.. If you find a right agent, they can possibly still arrange a berth in Mandrake.
There has been long discussion on the forum about Santorini marina. If you can get inside as Jim suggests, it's OK. (in summer it's impossible) However, the enrance was only 1m 90 deep when I was there and a 39 ft mono couldn't do it..

Cheers

I'll second Jim's view. Calling a marina in Greece is useless, even for larger ones. I too have friends (mostly agents or restaurants, etc) in the islands that I frequently visit and I call them.

Cheers

Yeloya,

TWO boats sank in Rhodes Marina last winter when we had a bad swell here - as one of two liveaboards I was here! Since then in winter they pull all boats off the quay about 3m and have reinforced all the mooring lines.
This autumn work will start on extending / building a new sea wall.
The marina is expanding all its services to a very satisfactory level.
The marina has seen very good usage over the summer up to the point of nearly not being able to accept more yachts, with Mandraki being basically quite full all the time with charter yachts one has to wonder where all the yachts went to previously? Surely very good for the local economy.

Re: Best marina netween rhodos and santorini

Marmaris is better solution rather than Greece because there is no available marina between Rhodos and Santorini and other islands. You will realize that the service and everything is so good in Marmaris.. You can go to Santorini on May which is better weather condition as well..
