Crewing from Cannes in March

I've heard from several sources that it is quite possible to pick up crew positions in southern france during the month of March. Does anyone know how this would play out? I am imagining all stripes of cocktail slurping aristocrats, with 80 foot custom yachts, very slow passages, and demeaning treatment of the crew.

I would love to crew eastward to Greece or Turkey, but don't know if it's worth my time to hang out somewhere as expensive as Cannes for a couple weeks.
