Marina to store on the hard, Sicily or Southwest Italy

Hello: I am looking for any recommendations of marinas in Sicily the west coast of Italy south of Rome to store our sailboat this winter on the hard. We also need some mechanical/electrical/fiberglass work done, so I appreciate any comments on competent marinas for both storage and repair. Thanks very much! It seems a little crazy to have to think about winter when it's sunny in August. I'd much rather be thinking about summer plans in the middle of winter!

Crotone is a rather popular solution in south east Italy.. Personally, I had a pleasant experience: I had some major works tuo my 31 boat.

Hello,

I agree. We left our boat in Crotone 2 years ago and all was OK.

Marina di Ragusa has a yard and storage facility.

I don’t think MdR has a boatyard for storage.

Re: Marina to store on the hard, Sicily or Southwest Italy

My on-line Cruise Guide site for Europe has a page for W Italy, and a page for Sicliy, S Italy and Malta..
Both pages include brief descriptions of the most popular layup yards along their coasts, and web site links for those yards - if I could find them! And there's a sketch plan showing locations and international airfieds.

Most of the info comes from reader's emails, or comments added by people who log in to the site.

The quick way to find information about many European cruising areas is just to Google "jimb [location]" - where location may be "W Italy", "Sicily", N Spain", or wherever! The page link usually pops up near the top of the list!

Oh. OK. I guess I'm confused because this was MdR response to my email query about storage in May 2018.

Dear Sir,

thanks for your interest in our*yard.*

Could please be more speicific*about*the requested works for your boat?

We don't accept boats only with dry storage, in attachment our general rules. After reading it, if you agree with them, I will send you the requested estimate

Waiting for your kindly reply

Distinti saluti / Best regards

MdR has a small yard at the southern jetty. I believe they also have a travel lift. MdR is a wonderful marina, although I have never been there in winter.

Re: Marina to store on the hard, Sicily or Southwest Italy

This doesn’t have to be so hard. Yes, MdR has a boatyard. They don’t have a boatyard for storage only. If you put your boat in they’re boatyard MdR will want you to contract with them to do some work. I don’t know what minimum € amount they would expect to leave a boat in boatyard but I doubt it would be insignificant. My statement was based on my personal experience, and a copy of the email exchange between me and an MdR representative.

This is a 2.5 year old enquiry.. maybe the owner will come back with the result of his 2018 search.. and how/where he resolved it..

Re: Marina to store on the hard, Sicily or Southwest Italy

One of the values of a forum is the ability for users who have similar or the same questions to search for information that hopefully is helpful.

Another user (not the OP) posted a statement that MdR lists it boatyard on its website. I haven't looked at they're website recently, but a quick look at a satellite view of MdR coupled with my original post should convince most people that MdR doesn't have a boatyard for storage. MdR has a boatyard for boats that contract with the boatyard to do the work.

Again, it shouldn't be this hard.
