Meet up inTurkey

We are in Ayvalik Turkey sailing south and would like too meet up with any other Cruising Forum members who are currently cruising Turkey.

We only arrived yesterday from Greece and so are still getting a feel for the place .

Our boat is in Setur Marina and on arrival we were told the only berth available was beside the pump out facility and it would be a 160 euros!

The same company has a marina 12 miles south east in Mitilni Greece and they charge 60 euros a night?-however as we belong to the cruising association we got a 10 per cent discount which was appreciated

The big surprise was the marina is BULGING with quite large local boats!
Aside from the marina expense we are impressed the vibe of the town and the friendliness of all the Turkish people we have had contact with so far.

You're killing me. I just got back from Istanbul (by air) after having eaten way too well. I wish I was with you folks on that coast.

Re: Meet up inTurkey

Hi Chuckr,
So near and yet so far after the expense of clearing into Turkey I don't want to repeat the situation in a hurry.
As I am sure you don't.

I am not if sure you have been to Lesvos before -it has been one of our favourites so far, we liked
-Mitilini was very nice -on the town quay-7 euros a night with water available at no cost-good butchers one street back from quay.
-Scarla Loutra south end of the Island very peaceful

Molyvos on the north side is not to be missed

Re: Meet up inTurkey

riv33 -- yea to bad - thanks for the vids - give us some ideas as we will be here a while - wind thing to Limos - have to run between the blows - and wondering whether to go south around the island or north - we will take a hard look at the south route up to a port on the north end for the crossing to Limos

if you are headed north we have done that all the way to the Black Sea and around - if south we can not help much as not south of Kusadasi

Re: Meet up inTurkey

Hi Chuckr

our experience-we have only used the east side of Lesvos island
So
- Molyvos(tied to quay in Petra just south of Molyvos water and quay no charge, We were between Greek warship and a big fishing boat but no problems) to Scarla Loutra(north to south end of the island)
-Scarla Loutra to Mitilini,
- Mitilini to Ayvalik (Turkey)
-Ayvalik to Bademli Limani (south of Dikili )
All of this was in the last couple of weeks and the wind was nothing to B4 most we did with main and code zero-nice sailing with flat water .
Limnos was very nice arrived at Myrina from Ormos Planitis on the Island of Kira Panyia.
We departed Limnos from Moudhros water was 5 euros and the marina was free.

Re: Meet up inTurkey

Hi Riv33

We are currently in Fethiye, heading north. The only locked in dates for us are Bodrum 28 June, Kusadasi 4 July. We leave Dacta for Symi on 28 July.

Also a Lagoon 450 so would be delighted to meet if that can happen.

Re: Meet up inTurkey

I am delighted to see that there are much more cruisers this year in turkish coasts, compared to last year..
By the way, is there any L 450 meeting somewhere here that I'm not aware of, 4th L 450 is booked to come to us

Feel free to PM me in case you need any info or help, particularly in the area between Bodrum and Fethiye..

Cheers

Re: Meet up inTurkey

Hi Anthonypo808,
Wow another Lagoon 450-Yes will definitely organise a meet up as we are going south with no fixed schedule. I checked out your website-very nice!
Your schedule is much more organised than ours.
We are currently anchored off Bademli Limani between two islands-beautiful sandy bottom and clear water.
Next stop Eskifoca.
I will pm you my contact details .

Re: Meet up inTurkey

Hi Yeloya,
We have meet a few cruisers whilst in Greece who were heading to Turkey this year but also a few who a little apprehensive and so staying in Greece?
I am looking forward to meeting fellow CF members who are here!
The L450 makes a good cruising boat-comfortable ,able to carry a big load and still respectable sailing performance-no where near as fast as your Catana 47 though.
I will definitely be coming to see you and will email you as we get closer.
