Monaco, May 2023?

I am looking at going the F1 in Monaco next year. I’d like to just sail up (I’m based in Costa Brava, Spain). I realize that this is the ultimate ballers, ball and I don’t qualify for that. But, I’m wondering if anyone has experience mooring, berthing, etc in that area during the F1.

its 7500 euros for a 40 footer. not cheap. 6000 euros for a 35+ footer. +60% multihull surcharge.

Seems reasonable. I thought it would twice that!

Why not sail into a marina nearby and commute, perhaps Port Napolèon (or Martigues), its a lovely drive along the coast to Monaco,

Both Martigues and Port Napoleon are more than a 3-hour drive from Monaco - not counting for high season traffic. Nice would be better, and taking the bus would be a lot cheaper and avoid the problem of finding parking. Finding marina space anywhere will be a problem.

I would drop the hook or reserve a slip in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat https://capferrat.portsdazur.org/ or Beaulieu-sur-Mer https://beaulieu.portsdazur.org/en/ and take the bus or train to Monaco - about 30 min away.

There were dozens of yachts anchored off Paloma Beach in St. Jean in Sept when we were there. The views are spectacular and the town has a good selection of excellent restaurants. Check out family-run Captaine Cook in STJ if you go. Both have decent-sized marinas and are close enough that you can see Monaco.

Might not be the baller experience but far more relaxed than Monaco, IMO.

When I was there you could see part of the race from the marina, but the marina was full of megayachts. This was a couple weeks before the race.

Re: Monaco, May 2023?

During the GP the marina of Monte Carlo is fully booked.
You have to book the berth from one year to the next (and hope that someone who has the berth the year before don't like to come back the next).
No hope!
But from Menton to Cannes there are about 12/14 marinas that have surely a place for you, and the most of them are very near (on foot) to the train station, and the train leaves you in the centre of Monte Carlo (there is a train about every 20 minutes).
If you are interested, an alternative could be stay at the anchor (or at the buoy) in the bay of Villefranche fully sheltered from wind (any directions).

Monaco is the playground of the very wealthy. I been there. Money gets thrown around there like it's nothing. Prepare to open your wallet.

Re: Monaco, May 2023?

Just a week after the 2022 race I got a spot at Fontvielle. Prices were back to normal.
For race week I would take the train into Monaco from somewhere close.
