Re: Montenegro Marina and Anchorage Recommendations

everyone has what we were going to say Except - watch the winds. we were there 2 years ago and knew some wind was coming in so left a free dock we had where some charter boats tie us but they let us stay as the boats were out. we left as we thought we needed better protection - there was one boat on that dock when we left and when the winds hit it took the boat ashore - in all something like 6-8 boats sank that night - the gusts come roaring down the slopes of the mountains and really pick up speed
we were in Kotor tied to the city wall and no issue
just watch the winds and the weather

Good point. We were anchored just over the border in Croatia, in the bay just north of Cavtat, in late August 2014, when a vicious thunderstorm broke in the middle of the night leading to several boats dragging their anchor and much excitement in the anchorage.

Gordon,
Can you PM some Croatia information and possibly your mobile phone number? I'd like to give you a call and ask some Questions about cruising Croatia.

Thanks

Ken

Also looking like plans have changed, which will head us South towards Albania and into Greece after Montenegro instead of Croatia. We checked out Croatia on noonsite, and don't feel like dealing with all the fines, fees, visa issues and corruption. Friends also informed us of the current issues first hand.

So Montenegro looks good and then more time spent in Sicily and back to home base Sardinia in October. The path of least resistance.
I think it would be a shame to miss Croatia when you are so close, we found the bureaucracy tiresome but manageable. Even if you just checked in at Cavtat, and cruised for a week from Dubrovnik, to Mljet - Okuklje (tie up free to eat at a great restaurant) and Polace (must see national park, affordable), and to Korcula, you'd get a good taster.

cheers
