Need Route-Planning Advice

hi all.. our cat is currently in Turkey and we intend sailing it to Croatia for the summer season in 2012... however i have look for endless hours on the net for route planning advice but have not yet found anything helpful.

please could someone share their views or experiences regarding the best time of year to sail there as well as the best route to take through Greece and toward the Adriatic ..

new to this forum so really hope it works??!!??

Re: Need Route-Planning Advice

Well, the more advices you will have, the best for you... So I wil be a little affirmative...
In my opinion, the best period will be between May 15 th and end of June.
Sailing west could be difficult at any moment in these area, but it will be easier to find "windows"...
The route will be W through the Cyclades. Wonderful cruising at these period : not too much people and flowers everywhere int the islands (Delos is one of the most interesting archeological site in the world)
Don't sail more south than Milos to join after the Saronic Gulf and Korinthos Canal. Then you will have a lot of shelters in the Patras Gulf (Delphes is the other "most interesting archeological site in the world" and accessible from Itea or Galaxidi).
You will arrive to Kefalonia and then north to Croatia. But you know, north of Kefalonia, Ithaque is the island of Ulysses !!!
A wonderful sailing trip indeed. Enjoy it !

Re: Need Route-Planning Advice

If you don't have time constraints, I would wait until the meltemi sets up. (later and later every year, May definately too early..) Korinthos canal is the shortest way and once you are Ionian sea, just take care of Bora's. (strong and sudden northerlies. Again the later you go, the less the chance of facing them)
Good luck
