Re: New Marina - Mersin Turkey

Awesome. Mersin is a fabulous 'Turkish' town quite a long way east on the Turkish Med coast. We were lucky to sail into their old fishing boat harbour in 2006 to a great welcome.
It may well have changed in 5 years, but then there were very few tourists, great local market, local shops, plus big brand stores. Good value restaurants, and very welcoming locals. Plus they've clearly a council who wish to get sailors to visit........I wish them all well.
Cheers
JOHN

yes have heard good stories about this marina 3 british yachts stopped there on there way to karpaz and have said it is really good marina and the free berthing may go on for a bit longer as they still dont have a marina license yet so they cant charge you and the sam goes for kas marina they are letting you berth for free as well as they too dont have a marina licence

Re: New Marina - Mersin Turkey

We were there 2 weeks ago. It is a fabulous marina, ultra modern facilities and a very friendly and competent staff. It is still rather 'empty', only a few yachts venture this far east, because returning westward in the summer is always an uncomfortable upwind slog, although it is a reasonable starting off point to Karpaz Gate in Northern Cyprus. The nightlife has gotten quite active, with lots of bars and restaurants in the marina area, primarily frequented by locals, and a nice shopping area.

One big advantage of the eastern Turkish coast: it is relatively less touristy than the Bodrum-Fethiye stretch, and there are some fabulous archeological sites to visit along the way
