Sardinia

Hi all,

We’re just about to cruise around the La Maddelena archipelago in Sardinia, and I was hoping to clarify the way the ‘game is played’ there, with reference to the mooring buoys around the reserve. My understanding is that you can buy permits (for various durations) that allow you to hook up to any/all of the mooring buoys within the reserve, with no other charges. Is this correct, or, are there other regulatory authorities such as the Ormeggiatori, or local ‘yahoos’, that that will also come to your boat and demand payments?
Can you get the permit after arriving in the reserve, or do you have to purchase it prior to entry?
Any feedback from those who have cruised the area would be appreciated! J

Thanks

Burls

Hi - can't tell you quite yet as we'll be there very shortly, but we bought our permit online no problem from the Park website. Just google maddalena parak permits. (Not v good connection here in Bonifacio or I'd give you the link). It came up in English for us, and don't click on the 'permits' link but where it says 'click here for more info', but read that English front page first.

A little feedback………

We’ve spent the last 4 days around the Maddelena islands, and besides park rangers checking that you had your current park permit, we’ve had no other ‘visitors’. Nice place, but terribly busy this time of year, particularly with day visitors.

Further update after a week there - if there are buoys use them. If not, in all but 'MA' areas (which are prohibited to all entry), you can anchor. Buy the permit online as it's much cheaper and be ready to show the police.

Cala Nord off Budelli was packed in the day and magic at night. Cala Garibaldi was lovely (the Club Med is closed), Porto Palma was ok and Villmarina was also lovely. If you stay out of La Maddalena itself and provision in advnace, there is nothing to spend your money on and it's actually very cheap!
