Schengen Rules Possibly to Change yet Again

These would be very welcome changes for all non-EU cruisers.

Not really its only a look at refining the VISA application system, most non-EU cruisers are probably from visa wavier countries anyway.

Re: Schengen rules possibly to change yet again

"The reform would also create a new type of visa, the touring-visa. It would allow legitimate travellers to circulate in the Schengen area for up to 1 year, as long as they don't stay in one member state for more than 90 days in any 180-day period."

This part would sure be an improvement for cruisers.

I think everyone would welcome that. Hopefully the current Schengen area rows about internal illegal immigration will dissipate ( cop on Italy ) and progress will be made

Then you might ask them to stop threatening to release illegal immigrants into France then. Wasn't funny when border controls reappeared for a while

Great if it comes true but would treat it more seriously if it wasn't released on 1st April!!

Yeah baby! Thats much more workable from a cruising standpoint. Perhaps we will be able to employ current practices and leave Shengen temporarily and continue on multiyear trips. There is a LOT to see from the Lofoten Islands to the Baltic and Bothnia, and the Adriatic and Aegean. Oh and the Med to get there.

This would be welcome indeed; I'm optimistic

Re: Schengen rules possibly to change yet again

It would be particularly valuable to cruisers if the rules for visa-waiver country visitors were revised to allow for something like the touring visa for visitors requiring visas. One might hope that visa-waiver visitors would not remain with more restrictive terms than visa visitors.

Well I suspect any long term visa will be just that a visa , ie even visa waivers will require a visa

Re: Schengen Rules Possibly to Change yet Again

It WOULD be amazing if it goes through. It would totally change our possibilities for cruising the Med. Even with all the other limiting factors (the potential Greek tax, the Turkish laws on grey water tanks, the expensive marinas...) the Schengen Rules have put a serious glinch on our cruising dreams.

And I say that even while understanding why they exist. Countries like Italy are really suffering under the weight of illegal immigrants.

Re: Schengen Rules Possibly to Change yet Again

Does anyone have any knowledge or experience to guess the earliest these changes could occur?
