Selling our Sailboat

We're close to that sad time of selling our 11m sailboat (2003, great condition) - unfortunately my body is telling me that! Recommendations please on how and where to do that. Our boat is presently in W Turkey, and we're expecting to sail to Greece later this month, maybe for the last time.

Re: Selling our sailboat

Brian; hopefully you have sold your boat by now. Unfortunately I can be of no help, but I would like to provide a recommendation to not use the online site, boatsfbo.com. My boat has been listed on the site since Feb, 2014 and not one interested party contact. Compare this to 2 free online sites, Craigslist and sailboatlistings.com - about 15 contacts from the former and 10-12 from the latter. I spent $25 on sailboatlistings.com and the e-mails began in earnest. Boatsfbo was $200!...live and learn...thnks, dave

Re: Selling our sailboat

it is very difficult to sell a boat in the Med at the moment:
  • Greece is problematic (see my website)
  • some other countries are very expensive, have increased taxes (eg. Italy) or have introduced also anchoring charges (Croatia) .....
I would suggest that every third boat in the Med is for sale at the moment.

I could not have sold my boat in the Med, therefore I had to transfer it to the Baltic and only after some time I have been successful.

Good luck !

it is all about presentation and PRICE.

Re: Selling our sailboat

I would base her now in a place that is easy for potential buyers to fly in. Get her quoted with a local broker there.

Then get her onto yachtworld with your own UK/US etc broker.

Nice site - easy on the eyes. Also - one can never read the Mark Twain quote too many times ... it's good emotional reinforcement! But, which article do you reference (about Greece). I saw several - may you could post a direct link.

Thanks!
