So true, I got a new regulator that mounted directly on the tank in the UK for my BBQ. Took it to the boat in Greece and although looked the same the UK would not screw in.

Re: Spain - need propane tank with US fittings

The stock USA consumer fitting is

QCC1 quick closing coupling Type 1
aka male ACME CGA 791
1-5/16″ on the outside

right-hand wrenchless safety connector with thermal and excess flow protection,
OPD mechanism required

POL left handed thread, female on the inside, aka CGA 510

older style had this latter only, with no OPD

Would it not be simpler for a family member in the US to buy one in WM then mail it on to the OP..???

Wouldn't one with a gauge be better, if there is space?

Answer is probably not.

It's a bit like Camping Gaz and Coleman Gas canisters for hiking stoves. Coleman is common in the US and UK but not so common in EU where Camping Gaz is more prevalent.

A case of buyer beware and maybe a converter might be a better idea.
Thanks. We’ve been sailing in Europe for four years now and I’ve had no problems getting our tanks filled. Not every single place is willing to fill them but we’ve been able to find enough places in Europe that getting a US tank filled has not been a problem.

Cher!

Well, The gauge is all but useless except for when you want to check for leaks. The fiberglass tanks are much better for letting you know the level of how much propane is left in the tank.

Cheers!

This is a viable option, thanks. I have a possibility of buying one through an individual, but your suggestion is a great option also. Thanks!

Steve:

Do you carry a set of fill adapters, or do you find that the places you use have their own? If you carry adapters, which ones do you find you actually need?

Re: Spain - need propane tank with US fittings

Couple of leads for you.

Look up Gateway Nautica in La Linea (Gibraltar) Eric could help you.
Mercanautic in BCN and in Palma have had slightly used GRP tanks that other US boats have swapped out to local cylinders when they arrived in the Med.

I kept my Worthington Ally bottles there, and refilled myself from local tanks, by making up a non-regulated adapter hose.

Before we left the US, I bought adapters I think from Trident. Each time I’ve had them filled I take the adapter with me but I’ve never had to use it. I know I have filled up in the Azores, Albania, and Sicily. Probably a few more places but they escape me at the moment.

So the answer is I do have the adapters but have not had to use them.

Cheers!

Thanks for the suggestion. I saw Erik when we were in la linea about a month and a half ago, and I never thought to ask him. I believe I no longer have his business card. Can you please PM me his contact info?

Hope to cross paths with you someday!
