Temporary Import - in Bond - in Greece

NO...this is not to start another thread about tempory import into the EU!!

I have a friend looking at buying a boat in Greece. It has been there almost 18 months. The current foreign owner says it is in Bond and therefore should be allowed 24 months.

Does anyone know an attorney or official in Greece who could confirm the legal status of a foreign boat? Or should he talk with the tax officials? Or any other suggestions? It's a good deal as long as he does not get stuck paying VAT after the purchase.

Thanks,
Jim

He is buying it through a broker in New Zealand. I am not sure if there is a broker in Greece. I'll ask.

Unusual way to handle affairs. Greece officials are as *flexible* as you may find them. If they like you, everything is possible, if they don't you better move as fast as you can.
Best thing is to ask the local harbourmaster (with a bottle of good whiskey).
