While ABYC is voluntary if an OEM wants to say the boat follows ABYC then they must follow all of standards not just pick and choose. So for OEMs building and selling boats in the US it becomes defacto requirement. Sure in theory they 'could' not advertise they are abyc compliant but as a practical matter they are going to follow all ABYC "recommendations".

Maybe "standard" is a better term. It is a voluntary standard but to meet the standard you must meet every item in the standard. Anyways the larger point is the cost and complexity goes way up above 48V which defacto limits you to around 15 kW (30 kW for dual motors).
Sounds like a good way to post the stuff in the future.
As to the meat of your post you are 100% correct .
