Re: Advice, Please - Sail a MacGregor 26' to Bimini, or Not ?

I own a Mac Gregor. Honestly if I were in the Bahamas and a hurricane was bearing down on me i’d be tempted to clean it well and scuttle it then fly home

Wouldn't it be easier to take it to Bradfords shipyard, (Nasua), or Edwin's boatyard, (Abacos), and just pay the hual out fee, and store it in a certified hurricane resistant wharehouse?

Just curious: did you misspell "warehouse" or "whorehouse"? Odd places to store a boat...

IIRC, the stability curve of the MacGregor does not really recommend them for extended offshore cruises. I seem to remember that once flipped, they were pretty stable in that position. I may be wrong, but it might be worth checking. It all depends on the weather.

Not sure why so many folks are worrying about hurricanes. The guy just wants to sail over to Bimini for a few days. It's only about 60 miles off the coast.

Folks do that all the time in Summer. (especially early summer)

The boat is the iffy part. That said, I know a guy that took a 16'3" Boston Whaler Montauk over there in the 70's.

Just keep an eye on the forecast which will let you know even if there is the possibility of a hurricane
