Re: Any volunteers to take our family from Miami to the USVI?

There is a better solution. One person fly to BVI and sail the boat back to Miami (downwind). Then everyone climb on and go wherever you want.
Elegant. Cheap. Family fun. Oh -- you may want a crew to accompany you on the sail.

You are new sailors going to liveaboard a Cat in the USVI and are taking possession at the start of hurricane season? That's ballsy...I like it, you need to start a blog!

Pleaaaase, no more blogs.
Remember the Bums?

As for hurricane season in the USVI: there is a few hurricane holes there, or a quick motorsail to Trinidad. Some insurance companies won't let you keep the boat there in the season.

Thousands upon thousands of boats remain in the V.I. during hurricane season , same for Florida . We spent 13 years in the V.I and never left for hurricanes .

Yup, and quite a few boats get damaged in hurricanes, mine got busted in Hugo.
Thousands of boats also got damaged in Wilma here I Florida, some beyond repair.
Sloppy preparations was the usual culprit and we all paid with price later with higher premiums.

I am surprised no one gave the usual, planning to leave or arrive on a particular day creates and high probability of disaster even if the trip was otherwise possible.

Nobody noticed.... the cats.

Better check on the rules for importing animals...

They might be in quarantine longer than you'll be there.

Not so. A certificate of health indicating currency of shots and no rabies lets them right in. In fact when we brought our dog here nobody ever asked to see any paperwork even though we had it.

I hope you don't let the truth as given here run you off. I would love to see post's from you as the adventure continues for you and your family. I've only run into one nasty sh#t talking low life on this forum, the rest are just blunt, forthright with what they know to be truth. I rather like that blunt, lets not ******** around approach, tell it like it is manor. Good luck on the move and good luck with your new boat when you find her.
Fair winds!

 but they sued and are getting a free boat out of it. At least Bumfuzzle never claimed to know anything.

I hadn't heard that. Did they go to court and win?

I think it's great that you and your family are moving down island. I will be moving to Tortola at the end of the month with my son. If you need help with the boat and also need a nanny I am willing to help y'all out as much as I can.
