Bahamas Check-In

When leaving from the Lake Worth/S. Florida area where do you check in to the Bahamas? Least hassle, best anchorages, etc.

We draw 5.5'

cheers

Are you headed to the Abacos? If so...cross to Memory Rock and on to Great Sale Cay. Anchor for sleep. Then head to Spanish Cay or Green Turtle Cay (I prefer the latter) which are both easy check in stops. Spanish Cay requires a marina check in. Green Turtle ...you can anchor off New Plymouth for check in...then proceed into White Sound for a safe enclosed anchorage.

Most stop at West End from West Palm, but it means a marina stop.

Some of these Cays no longer have passport control, It might be better to go to West End or just go to Nausa via NorthWest Channal if you are going to the Exumas and have the crew.

I prefer Spanish Cay or Green Turtle, we don't usually stop at west end on the way over. Last time we did stop there on the way back and it made for a nice trip home to st lucie. Spanish is supoer easy, they have a free dock you pull up to, the lady will come down and get you checked in and you can head our wherever you chose.

Green Turtle is pretty good too, but the lady is sometimes hard to catch, we had to wait two days one time (they arent all that "strict") We took the route camaraderie is suggesting last time (although we stayed two nights at great sale).
