Re: Best areas to buy boat with cash

Nanny Cay, Tortola, BVIs. There are several ("sail away") deals currently listed:
1990 Beneteau First 32s5 - $$ REDUCTION Sail Boat For Sale -

But I would make contact with the yard managers in all of the islands to see who is seriously in arrears on their moorage and or storage bills.

Another option you might consider is having your Bristol 27 trucked to Florida or Texas or better yet getting a trailer & doing it yourself. With an 8' beam it would be legal to pull & it's a capable boat. The biggest plus is you know the boat & it can be ready to go instead of buying a boat you don't know & then spending a bunch of time & money on it in an area your not familiar with.

Have you ever tought of buying a boat in Canada. Either Ontario, Quebec or Nova Scotia. Boats for sale are aboundant, and if you consider that your dollar is worth 35% more than the Canadian $ you will probably get more boat for your money. Lok at this site as an exemple : Voilier - Annonces | Les Puces Nautiques It is in french but easy to decode with pictures and price. Import taxes are nil(for boat made in USA) or very little for europe's imports.

There's a thought.. use it as cheap accommodation/transport to work your way down island till you find what you want for a bigger boat.. should find a local buyer for a nice 27 in St Martin or somewhere similar.. if your not averse to the confines and have a good bimini and dodger.. and its an adventure..

Re: Best areas to buy boat with cash

I hope you are talking cash as "money in the bank" and not in currency in your pocket. That much currency in your pocket is fair game for every LEO and Customs Agent in most states in the world. You will be devoid of your "cash" in a very short period of time should it be found in your possession. Good luck in getting it back.
