Best route/ time to sail from FL to the windward islands?

I'd like to take a few months and sail from Florida to the Windward islands. Is there a route or time to go to avoid this being a long miserable slog to weather?

I'm on a shoal-draft Beneteau- she really doesn't go to windward!

Pass Nth of the Banks on S'lies and curve NE till you hit the N'lies then ride those to due N of the BVI's then swing S down to the Islands... if you want to hop... its all to W'ward... lol
I did this end of Feb-early March... can get a tad lumpy..

Thanks Boatman. The thing to do would be the long sail up there, then hop downwind back to FL, yes?
