BVI

I’ve chartered twice in the BVI with Sunsail but not since the rebuild started after the hurricane. I’’d appreciate any feed back from anyone who has sailed there recently regarding facilities, restaurants etc. Sopers Hole, Virgin Gorda, Cooper Island and other stops. Planning March/April 2020.

Re: BVI

If you're on the Facebook, check out the BVI Abroad- Hurricane Irma page.

Full of useful stuff, from locals and charterers.

Re: BVI

Greetings and welcome aboard the CF, Don, & db.

The charter yacht and sailing industry was the first to rebound, with some operators accepting guests as soon as November 2017 to jumpstart the winter season.

Re: BVI

We were there in December. Soper’s Hole was still in really bad shape but they were working hard on it. We didn’t go to Bitter End because heard it was till bad. All other places were great, good or acceptable. Spanish Town/VG was acceptable but lots of work going on and limited electrical slips.

Re: BVI

Again, not to promote another forum but the BVI forum on travel talk online has lots of info on bareboating in the BVIs and you will get lots of trip reports and first hand accounts on what's open, being built, closed, anchorages, condition of mooring balls etc. Good Luck!

T minus 7 days to our 9 day cruise in the Grenadines, super excited, but hope to make it back to the BVIs some day!

Re: BVI

Been here in BVi for ~4 months.

Provisioning:
Grocery store in Sopers is still closed. Spanish town grocery store at the marina is gone, need to walk to RiteWay by The Baths. Bobby’s and RiteWay in Road Town are operational and fully stocked.

Entertainment:
Pirates Bight at Norman is fully
Operational. Willy T’s is at Peter Island currently. Cooper is fully
Operational. Several bars and restaraunts open in Spanish Town. Bitter End is gone and not rebuilding (hear-se). Vixen point and Saba are rebuilding but at a snails pace. Anegada faired best and is all open. Junkies at Leverick is open as well as Hog Heaven and several bars in the Bond. On Jost: Foxy’s, Soggy and One Love are open. Ivan’s was demolished but they have a shack open. Cane Garden bars and restaurants are open.

Re: BVI

Bitter End Yacht Club Status:
Apr 7, 2019 ➥ https://www.bvitraveller.com/bitter-...-construction/
Nov. 2018 ➥ https://beyc.com/our-story/bitter-en...we-be-ramblin/

“... In brief, we are hard at work on phase 1, with an eye toward having the waterfront open in 2019. That would include the marina and mooring field, beaches, watersports center, and of course a beach bar. As a starting place, we’re are heading back to our roots as a yachtsmen’s retreat, geared toward the needs of boat visitors. Further hotel and resort development will take place through 2020...”

In July 2018 BEYC reported, “We’re focused on having our mooring field, marina and harbor-front operations, including food , beverage and retail, in full swing by spring, 2019. By then, we will be on our way to building out the rest of Bitter End’s Village center as well as planning and mobilizing for follow-up phases across our 64 acres and along our mile of shoreline.” A December 2018 article in Scuttlebutt Sailing News pushed back the opening date to Summer 2019 as they stated, “The short answer is the marina, restaurant, bar, and waterfront operations will be ready by Spring/Summer 2019, with overnight rooms coming online the following year.”
From all accounts it looks like the opening of the marina and restaurant have been further delayed until late 2019. According to a February 2019 article in the BVI News, Premier Dr. D. Orlando Smith, while reporting on resorts that are scheduled to reopen in the BVI, stated that the the Virgin Gorda-based Bitter End Resort is currently rebuilding and while the villas will take time to be restored, the marina, restaurant and docks will be opened later this year [2019].
