BVI cruising tax?

Received today info, that as per 1.1.2022 the BVI cruisng tax has been raised from 6 USD/ day to 16 USD.
There is no official in to be found. Might this information be correct?

I guess the first question would be where did you receive that information from, if not from a official source.
However, I would not be surprised.

Re: BVI cruising tax?

I did some checking on BVI tourism site and they report that charter vessels based in the BVI have a tax of $6/day/person and that Charter vessels based outside the BVI are $16/day/person.
seems expensive either way to me. Likely trying to make up for lost revenue. It can get expensive quickly if you are a cat out of USVI. 6 people means essentially $100/day to be in the BVI waters. Good reason to stay in the USVI

Re: BVI cruising tax?

The info was recieved from a major charter company. Consider they should be well informed, think? It was indeed question of a charter boat.

Re: BVI cruising tax?

Yes, those numbers are correct for the BVI. They have been raising the rates, as well as numerous other "hidden" fees and charges, for years. Even when I clear in and out as a private vessel there are seemingly random surcharges and fees that are sometimes applied and sometimes forgotten. I've cleared out for $0.25 (charge for the form) and cleared out for $40, while clearing in is usually more expensive.
But the BVI really doesn't want foreign (i.e. USVI) charter vessels to take away business from locally operated ones. Particularly now, as the USVI has had one its best years ever for chartering while the BVI has had its worst year and the short-sighted BVI government is trying to recoup losses with additional charges instead of trying to attract new business and make it up in volume.
