BVI Updates from post-Irma charter

I am heading to BVI in January for a 7 day bareboat charter. Would be very interested in hearing from anyone that has actually been there since Irma regarding conditions, recommendations, do’s and don’t, etc. Love the BVI’s. Booked charter several months ago. Thought about canceling, but figured the best way we could help was to get down there and spend some money. Thanks.

Re: BVI Updates from post-Irma charter

skipper,

Just saw your post, and you are already probably sailing and snorkeling and rumming in the BVI.

We will be there in may, for the most settled weather , good sailing winds, and before hurricane season.

We have done quite a bit of research, and you should have a marvelous time with a few isolated showers tossed in.

Our itinerary is pretty full for two weeks of monohull sailing. Some of the old long time favorites, and some new places to explore, and some of the old familar faves have changed a bit.

happy that you did not cancel. Our itinerary , that can change with wind and sea conditions :

Depart Road Harbor

* Cooper Island Beach Club: snorkel cistern point, check out the Rum Bar, Restaurant for a great meal ashore.

* Leverick Bay: Friday night bbq, band, dancing, mocko jumbies ( fresh water )

* Scrub Island : New. Slip, pool, hiking, stand up paddle boarding, kayaking

* Marina Cay : Restaurant is now under a tent, still great food and view ( water)

* Monkey Point : Snorkel, NPS 1.5 hr, free mooring, great snorkeling

* Little Jost, and Diamond Cay, for B-line, Foxys taboo, peaceful and fun

* Great Harbor: Corsiairs, foxys, walk over to White Bay.

* Canegarden bay: Elm, Myettes, Quitos, beach time, snorkel reef

* Norman Island: snorkel Pelican / Indians and the Caves. Pirates for dinner

* Peter Island : If the Willy T is still there Big Party time.

* Nanny Cay, back on Tortola : Top off water and fuel. ( may do that also after, Canegarden bay .

* Return the boat to Conch Charters.

Just Erica and I SAILING , a jeanneau 36i. for two weeks.

We will also spend first and last night at hotel on Tortola before and after the charter, and a couple of days on St. Thomas at a hotel, then the big iron STT -MIA-LAX .

We held off for a bit, after Irma, and waited until 2019 for the good folks of the BVI get get back on their feet again. We see no problem with sailing, moorings, slips, restaurants, snorkeling, and having a most special BVI A sailing vacation # 17.

Still have a few months till may, and really ready to get back there.

Enjoy your BVI sailing, great cruising grounds.

We sailed there in Dec (http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...rt-212300.html).

Be aware that Dream Yacht Charters now has their base at Scrub and when we were there I didn't see any empty slips. You may need to take a mooring ball at Marina Cay and dingy over. I'd call ahead to try to reserve a slip if you want to stay there.

Re: BVI Updates from post-Irma charter

Thanks for the scoops on Scrub....

We plan on a slip reservation for a 35 foot sail, and if that did not work, we will pick up a mooring at Marina Cay. We have celebrated my birth day at Marina Cay for many, many years, and it has become a tradition, the next day can take the dock banger over to Scrub and check it out .

Scrub Looks like a fun place for the active sailor to get some exercise, along with a great dinner. We like the looks of that nice trail, and views of the other islands, and the beaches, and the activities.

All , the above, Marina Cay and Scrub smooth right along with our planned itinerary, that we know can change . No worries, your good scoops will have us prepared .
