Canaries

Hi,

I note that most of the posts on this forum are about the Caribbean and W. Atlantic. We are currently cruising in the Canaries having abandoned our Caribbean plans - for this year at least. Plenty to see here.

Our blog has some pix and descriptions of the islands we have visited so far, and we are putting together a marinas and harbours guide as we go.

Fairwinds - Bluewater Albin Vega

We are currently in Restinga on El Hierro, the most South-Westerly of the islands . . . up against a wall with very high Spring tides, too worried to leave the boat and go sightseeing at the moment, so I found this forum instead.

Nick, some of us will look forward to the Canaries 'guide' you two will be putting together. We may need to use it as early as this coming Fall when exiting the Med. Meanwhile, mind those Atlantic storms when they show up on your door step!

BTW congrats on picking a super little cruising yacht. We sailed a '78 Vega for several years out on the west coast of California. Perhaps the best sailing boat I've ever been aboard. FYI for your eventual Atlantic Crossing, I found we could use simple 'sheet & tiller' self-steering, only requiring a bit of bungee cord and small stuff, with that boat. Just in case the a/p or wind vane pack up...

Jack

Hi Nick,

very nice website and blog I've added some links on the relevant pages at skipperguide to your site (Tenerife and La_Gomera).

At this opportunity I would like to invite everybody to add or update some infos on skipperguide. Simply press "edit" on the relevant article page, and you can modify the content. I'm sure, everybody has knowledge, that may be useful for others.

Cheers,
Peter
