Cape Verde Islands

Hello forum members

I'm sailing down from Lanzarote to Cape Verde before crossing and would like any info you can share with me on these islands. Anchorages, approaches, clearance, where to go and what to see.
Any advise and info will be most appreciated!!!

Thanks and fair winds
Ron

Ron, you're probably aware of noonsite.com, but just in case not, here's a link...

Noonsite: Cape Verdes

I think a few of our members have visited the Cape Verdes, so they may chime in soon.

Hi Ron,

I was there 12 years ago and giving it a miss this time. I'm now in Las Palmas and heading direct to St Martin on the rhumb line.

The Marina in Mindelo is quite nice, good bars and restaurants nearby, and a club next to the marina where you can use the pool etc for a nominal fee. A cheaper option is to drop the hook outside the marina and use the dink dock, it was around 10 euro for a week from memory for just the dink. There is a fuel dock and water on the pontoons.

I spent time just in Sao Vincente; not recommended. Keep on truckin' across to the Carib.

The marina in Mindelo is good. Chandlery shop is poor.

Be sure to visit the island of Sao Antao by ferry and hire an aloguer to take you across the mountains one way and through the valleys the other way.

Good place for hiking if you have time.

Don't go to Tarrafal, Santiago. Break-ins are still going on.
