Charter companys Antigua

Hi all out there,

does anyone know if there are more Charter companys beside
Horizon and Sunsail/Moorings on Antigua ?

Looking for 17th december to 31st december 2013 just two of
us and experienced sailors so something 40 to 44' would be fine.
Just want to cruise this time arround Antigua and relax

Answers are appreciated.

Re: Charter companys Antigua

I can't recall having seen Antiguan charter boats apart from the Sunsail base in English Harbour. Considering the length of your charter, you might think about chartering in St. Martin (easier to get to from Germany than Antigua) and sailing from there via St. Barths and perhaps St. Kitts / Nevis to Antigua and then back (perhaps via Barbuda). While Antigua is beautiful and the protected Green Island (Nonsuch Bay) anchorage is one of my all-time favorites, I might plan on sailing around a bit.
I'll ask some of the locals I know if they would recommend a local company.

p.s. I just recalled that Guadeloupe would be better and closer for chartering a boat, you could fly into the airport, take a cab to the Point-a-Pitre marina where there are numerous charter companies, then sail up the west coast of Guadeloupe to Deshaies one day and then do the 5 hour crossing to English Harbour in Antigua the next day.

p.p.s. Ich beantworte auch Fragen in Deutsch, aber in den öffentlichen Foren muss hier Englisch geschrieben werden.

Re: Charter companys Antigua

Hi Zanshin,

thank you very much. I know there are other destinations as well, which
we know already. The only island really is missing on our list is Antigua.
We have been so many times on the Airport in Antigua that we thought
it may be a good idea to start from there this time and also find out
something more about the island.
I know its two weeks but there are so many bays to find out and enjoy
that we thought it may be worth it.
Yes, if you find out about locals that's fine, i rather go with small
companys than the big ones.

Greetings from a sunny Germany ( finally)

Re: Charter companys Antigua

Lampe (I'm in Munich at the moment and already missing my boat in the Caribbean),

I just remembered that Horizon Charters has a base there as well with a couple of boats (see Full Fleet and Pricing of Charter Yachts in Antigua & Barbuda).

But if price is a major factor then I still believe PaP in Guadeloupe is your best bet, even for Antigua.

Cruising in Antigua is awesome, I spend too much time at anchor in Falmouth or Jolly Harbours and need to explore the islands 365 beaches a bit more.

Re: Charter companys Antigua

Dear Zanshin,

thank's for your reply. I will try Horizons and yes PaP may be a better
place to start. I can imagine having a boat that far, is hard to live with.
We are lucky and have our boat close by just 5 minutes driving and
we can sail every weekend :-)
"Just" 44' but good enough for the Baltic Sea, nothing for circum
navigation though.

Have a good time until you see your boat again.....

Pointe-a-Pitre - Guadeloupe, would be your best bet as a starting point towards Antigua. (Don't forget to pick up a few bagettes, frommage (cheese) Brie/Rockefort and a bottle (bouteille) of Bordeaux red (rouge)). Bon voyage!

A la votre!
