Closest Anchorage to Virginia Beach

I'll be heading down to Norfolk soon, and had planned to anchor on Willoghby Bay, however, I need to pick up a radio I had to send in for service in Virginia Beach.

Is there a closer anchorage? (5'draft, 46' clearance). If not, is there a cheap way to get there and back from Willighby Bay? Looks like about 14nm, as the crow flies?

Virginia Beach is pretty big. Where do you need to go?

Lake Wesley (inside Rudee Inlet) is in Va Beach, and I think you can anchor there.

Chart 12205a

You did say anchor, and while you could find a berth in Little Creek, I don't think there is room to anchor.

I was looking at that, but like you said, it doesn't look big enough to anchor. I was thinking of drop shipping to a store close to the beach.-- don't have exact address, belongs to a friend's son.

I don't mind walking a few miles, but 14 is a bit of a hike.

If you are heading down the bay, little creek or willoughby bay, you could even get a dock at waterside in norfolk. If you PM me I'd be willing to give you a ride. FYI, there is a small anchoring spot inbetween bay point and little creek marinas in little creek inlet. there is room for 1 boat. i see people/boats anchored there all the time. both little creek and bay point have dinghy/transient docks. I have a slip at little creek marina. Any of the spots i have mentioned are 20 min from anywhere in VB.

Okay, thanks everyone. I'll go ahead and have them ship it, and hopefully both we and the radio will arrive by the end of next week. Thanks again... don

I'd like to thank Jason, cruiser2b, and Chris, ti' punch, for help getting my radio in Norfolk. I finally made it down right before Thanksgiving.

Chris was about to leave town but offered to come get me that night. I was anchored out in 20knt gusts, and decided to wait till the next day -- though I really appreciated the offer.

A couple days later after I'd moved to a marina, Jason picked me up and drove me over to VB, and even to a couple marine stores to pick up a few things I needed. It really worked out great, and I was able to clear out by noon.

So, thanks again to both of them, and happy holidays to everyone.
