House the poor.
Good comment

There are those that Will Not jump the hoops though.
They've been abused so much they cannot trust the help.

They will retain their autonomy, until shown other better opportunity.
Worked with homelessness for years.
It's an unfortunate position not easily rectified.
And requires a lot of Trust.

In Olympia, we have a lot of homeless, in tents, cars, ect. looking for a better opportunity.
Boats can serve a step in the right direction.
Place to sleep, showers, cook top, the next step is work on a regular basis.

However the rents in Olympia are steep for most of our community, even Grandmas and Grampas!

Many on fixed income, without subsidies there would be a lot more problems.
More crime, more of everything bad.

All Have the opportunity. It is what you make of it. Yea we get thrown curveballs and we have to deal with those. Certainly it is easier for some than others but we all have the same opportunity.

People do not have equality of opportunity by virtue of race , social class , education , inherited wealth , intelligence , health etc.

A caring society tries to provide a safety net for those

Obviously I disagree. If you can't live in a small apartment you can't maintain a boat

Wonder what the kid who got accepted to every Ivy League school thinks about this? That kid took his opportunity and amplified it. If one can do it why not two, and ten, and a thousand. It’s a four letter word quite frankly that explains those who cannot achieve what they want.

Since we have drifted so far off topic that we are now on dry land I will abstain from further comment.

Re: Cruisers are no longer welcome in Florida!

The original title of this post was cruisers not welcome in Florida. If you don't go anywhere your not a cruiser. Maintaining a boat is work and can be costly. Lets say you get called for a job interview you have to be able to get there rain or shine. You have to be prepared for hurricanes. If boat is not well taken care of then you will have issues. Now if you are in a marina that is better, also expensive than living on the hook.

That's the mythology of people who were born on second base, made it to third, and think they hit a triple.

Sure, lets hope a bunch of people with few resources (and probably coping abilities) lose the roof over their head. Nice.

Possibly in the process creating even more derelict boats

I’m always staggered at how callous some people are to their fellow man.
