Cruising Guides for Nova Scotia + Newfoundland

Heading north, if the weather ever co-operates. Suggestions for good cruising guides sought. Prefer those that concentrate on anchorages, rather than " You can buy delicous, but expensive sandwiches at the Olde Sandwich Shoppe" and the fashion shops are very good here, sort of thing!

What I need to know is passage notes, where cou can drop the hook, and buy food, beer, diesel and propane, not necessarily in that order.

You want the Canadian Sailing Directions: Canadian Sailing Directions

These have been recommended to me: Pilot Press - Cruising Guides to Newfoundland, Labrador, Nova Scotia and the Gulf of St. Lawrence.

Lastly, my local sailorly bookstore has a wealth of publications: Nautical Mind

Fair winds. Many of my friends have said that Newfoundland, despite the hairy weather to get there, is the best cruising grounds and people they've ever experienced.

The CCA guide to newfoundland is by far the best for newfoundland.

Are you going up this summer? We will be there.

Re: Cruising Guides for Nova Scotia + Newfoundland

Hello
Another very good guide that you should get is Cruising Guide to the Canadian Maritimes by Yacht Pilot Publishing

It gives complete navigational details on passages, anchorages, dockage, fuel etc for Cape Breton Island (Bras d'Or Lakes and the coastal ports around the whole island). It also covers southern Newfoundland, St Pierre and Miquelon, the Magdalen Islands and some of PEI.

In Maine, I know Chase Leavit in Portland have it.

Hope the fog lifts soon
and long may your big jib draw
