CUBA Long Term Cruising

We are thinking of sailing to CUBA and leaving Highland Fling there for a few seasons (2/3 years maybe) while we come back to HF and cruise CUBA for about six months at a time.

Any feedback from people who have spent some time in CUBA appreciated

Re: CUBA Long Term Cruising

I have only sailed the southern coast.
Have been there twice and would have no reservations on leaving my boat at the marina in Cayo Largo or Cienfuegos.
Did travel to the north coast by car and visited Marina Hemingway which would probably also be fine. However the southern coast in my opinion is much more desirable as a home base and you can travel by car to other areas.
Will be happy to put you in touch with emails of persons who are trustworthy and knowledgeable if you need some local contacts.
Just send me a private message if you desire.
Good Luck

Re: CUBA Long Term Cruising

We just got back from Cuba yesterday and was checking out some Marinas. I saw 4 places that looked good. 3 in veradaro and hemigway in Havana.
The development at the end of the peninsula looks great and huge. Aqua world midway down and the marina at the bottom of town both had crusirs in them..all looked very sheltered and the sailing was great. did a cat booze cruise over to cayo blanco the sailing was great.
I want to check out cayo largo next...cuba is awesome for cruising.

Re: CUBA Long Term Cruising

Several Canadians leave their vessels for long periods in marinas in Cuba. If the country of your citizenship and vessel registry has good relations I would consider it. Otherwise no way, unless you're willing to walk away from the vessel if Cuba decides they fancy it.
